Default The unwanted horse - 86 gt ttops

Okay, so instead of telling the whole story, I'm just going to provide you a link to the original build thread. This explains how I got the car the first time, and how I ended back up with it.

    http://vb.foureyedpride.com/showthre...r-my-bro-n-law

Okay, so now you know the story. Let's continue.

The car is an 86 GT with t-tops. It's mostly stock, the only mods are catted h-pipe, flowmasters, and 3:73s. It's an automatic car with working a/c. The car is a pretty solid car. We pulled the interior out to clean it, and the floor pans were beautiful. There is some rust in the typical places, like the hatch and the bottom of the doors. Easily replaceable panels at least.

This will be a resto mod car. It will stay pretty true to it's 4 eyed heritage though.

The car runs and drives well, but has some oil leaks. It's good enough for now, but I got another short block on the stand, it's getting a stock rebuild, home ported gt40ps, home ported explorer intake, custom grind cam.

The transmission will either get a shift kit and a small stall, along with a nice cooler.... or I'll switch it over to a t5, just not sure yet.

The 3:73's will probably stay as I want the car to be a cruiser.

I have a seat of drag lites on the away.

The interior will get some new junkyard seats, new carpet, rear seat delete, console delete, 4 point roll cage.

Here's a couple pictures with my 92 vert.

And one more of my red fox. When I bought it I didn't think I would like it much because it's a vert. But it's a very clean car, nice black leather interior, cold a/c, a bunch of well thought out bolt on's. A really fun nice weather weekend car. Debating on selling it to fund the 86, but I'm having trouble with the thought of letting it go.

Your brother in law made a BAD Choice!

Good Luck with the build! I would much rather have an 86 GT T-top than a SN95, well except for maybe an 03/04 Cobra BUT Still!

Spent the evening pulling most of the interior out. The next step is to remove all th factory sound deadener and then paint the floor pan, since this is a budget build, I'm going to be using some rustoleum instead of por15.Name: 20170504_151509.jpg

Alright guys, I found some pictures of when we first picked up the car. This was from the first time we pulled the interior.

Normally, I take the carpet and seats to the car wash and power wash them. Then I drag them over to the vacuum and vacuum them right away, really pulls the gross out of them. Then let them sit out in the sun for a couple of days and they come out some fresh and clean smelling.

The last time we were in a hurry as it was suppose to rain that night. So we didn't want to get it very wet as it had to go right back in.

I pulled the interior out, borrowed a power washer, sprayed down the seats and carpet really good, then vacuumed up any lose water. Did that yesterday and let them sit outside over night. Today, it's suppose to rain, so I moved the car outside and put the interior inside the garage. The plan is to hit everything with a shampooer and some cleaner for one last step of cleaning. Then I'm going to remove all the factory sound deadener from the car, undercoat the floor pans, put a new sound deadener down, and then toss the interior back in.

Couldn't get a hold of my sister to use her shampooer, so I just used some warm soap water, a rag, and a shop vac to hit everything once more. There was only one stain I couldn't remove, on the front drivers side near the tear. ReSt of the seats came out real nice. The carpet came out pretty good as well. Once the seats and carpet are bolted in on top of it and the floor mats laid down, won't see much of it anyways. This is just a budget build, but no reason not to get it as clean as possible. Plus, everything smells like fresh laundry

My 4 year old son stayed out in the garage the whole time playing with his die cast and asking lots of questions and handing me stuff. This is the whole reason behind this car. Father and son time. Showing him how to make the best out of what you have.

I'm going to order new black carpet, make up a nice rear seat delete, console delete, and re dye some of the faded interior pieces to the o.e.m gray. Probably going to try and find a seat of real nice tweed black and gray gt seats from a sn95. The outside I'm going to paint drab olive green (satin) with matte black trim. Go with a super clean military vehicle look, with a twist.

Does this mean you'll armor plate the floors?

Haha, no. Debated if I should put any padding or sound deadener back in after I paint the floor boards. I'm not worried about noise, mainly heat. The car is keeping the a/c (ice cold), but I don't want to deal with hot legs. Lol

I need to do a little research to see what's the lightest heat barrier to use.

So... pick n pull was half off today. Found a set of gt40 heads, explorer intake, and 3g alternator for like 60 bucks. I got a bunch of other non mustang parts, when I got home I was looking at the receipt and noticed she only charged me for half the intake.

I might go up tomorrow to get some 5 lug swap stuff and maybe a few sets of gt40ps, if I do I'll let them know about it. It was probably my fault as I had the upper and lower bolted together so it was easier to handle, didn't give it a second thought. I'm going to hit up the other nearby yards while I'm up there, it's about an hour from my house.

It's been forever since I've updated this, mainly because I haven't done much to the car lately. I got the 3g alternator swap all done... I got the rest of the sound deadener out and coated the floor pan in rustoleum stops rust. I found two rust spots about 2" x 3" each, so I cut those out and welded in some new metal. Then I put one layer of sound deader (peal n seal) on the floor. I need to find some good budget closed cell foam, like to do one layer on top of the peal n seal.

Ive been searching for some nice sn95 black and gray tweed seats, but couldn't find any.. so I grabbed a set of nice 04 v6 black and gray buckets. They'll do for now! Going to order new carpet tonight of I can make up my mind on which color. Thinking about the dark svo gray over the black. Thoughts? When I get my taxes back I'm finishing the interior, sound system, all new suspension, sn95 front 5 lug, ranger axles and drums in the rear (I'll eventually switch to sn95 rear disc, but want to keep the stock length axles.

The new carpet came in. Got light gray, maybe should of gotten the svo dark gray? Found the console delete panel I've been searching for, picking it up tomorrow for 15 bucks. One of the local mustang guys had a set of Sr lowering springs for $80. Talked him down to $60 and got them in my pile of parts now. Going to hit up the u pull type yards tomorrow to see if I can find a v6 sn95 t5 and 5 lug parts

Bought a drive shaft loop that was basically new for 20 bucks.

Bought sn95 spindle and brake set up for 75 bucks.

Bought a new battery for the car, just a cheap Walmart one.

Put a decent jvc head unit in the car that I had sitting on the shelf

Looks good. I had a set of SN95 seats in one of my old cars. Comfy, but the sat higher than the fox based seats.
