Thread: green body clip

    Default green body clip

Does anybody know where I can get the green body clip that is on the front part of the rear quarter body molding on 85 and 86 mustangs.....
I cant seem to find a replacement one. Bodyshop painted the car and busted the clip. Now the trim piece is cracked from not being in tight with the body.
    thanks

I assume you are referring to the threaded metal stud that is attached to the trim molding with a flat plate and two slots that the plastic trim molding is hot melted thru. The threaded stud pushes into a plastic nut/anchor on the body to hold the trim tight against the body.

I am not sure if that clip specifically is available as a separate part as it was an integral part of the rear quarter moldings. I will try and look thru my Auto Body clip and fastener catalogs and see if anything is shown. If you still have the actual stud, then you can epoxy it back onto the molding. I have also made some in the past using a properly sized machine screw, metal plate and epoxy or two part urethane adhesive. I will post up what I find. Good Luck!

Yes the Stub is still on the molding but the clip that is in the quarter panel is missing, I took the other side apart and there is a metal clip that the stud pushes into to hold it.
    Any help would be great......

The metal part in the body is called a barrel nut. I am not 100% sure what size the stud is, but I believe its either a #8 or #10 stud.

The nut is similar to the ones seen on these clips.

I will try and check my catalogs tomorrow and see if I can verify what size the stud is. If we aren't able to find the correct barrel nut you could attach the clip using a fender washer to spread the load and a correct size push nut to hold it tight. May not be OEM, but it does work.

I am not sure that is the exact clip you need in regards to size. Those are the top door molding clips for the early Four Eyes and convertibles that had the thin metal trim on the top of the doors just under the dew wipes. Those clips are available from most Fox Retailers if you want to take the chance, but again, not sure they are the correct size.
