Default thinking about 4:10 gears ?

Help me out guy's. 1985 5.0 with a little better the 300 HP at rear wheels, shift about 6,200 RPM. I now have 3:73s with a 26 inch tall tire. I have a new set of 4:10s to go in it, mostly in town or city driving, very rarely does it see hiway speeds. Oh ya car has a T 5 in it. Anybody running a similar setup, thoughts and observations ? My heart say's Yea, friends say stay 3:73s, what say you ?
    Thanks Randy.

It really depends on the power band of your motor and how you use it. I have 3:73's. Before I put on the blower, I wished I had gone 4:11. With the blower, I wish I had 3:55 or even 3:08 gears. Totally depends on the torque curve and the useage.

I think there will be very little difference between the two. Unless you are gonna be going to the track and don't already top out 3rd, it might help some. If you are already topping out 3rd then you will have to shift sooner and might cost ya time.

A gear calculator will tell you the shift mph for each gear. Anything past that is all seat of the pants and what you prefer.

If your car needs gears it could help. I went from 3.55 to 3.90's with 25in tires with a 275rwhp 306 and it did help. But it was the cam that determined that, not the power level. I'm currently building a stronger 302 and I'm planning on using 3.55's.

3:73s have always been my favorite gear choice. I know a guy that has a motorsport set that is still new in the box and I am leaning towards getting them myself. 4:10 have always been a little steep for me. Had a 468 Chevelle 4 speed car years back and I put a set of 4:88s in it for fun. Car was hell on wheels. Or atleast the first 300 feet it was. If it was me I would stay with the 3:73 gear.

Me too. I'd make the switch.
