Thread: v-belt on 5.0

    Default v-belt on 5.0

    Hello
I have a 5.0 and all I am trying to run is just a alternation and water pump. Is there anyway I can do that with the serpentine belt? If not could I just convert it to v-belt?
    Thank you

THE serpentine belt? No idea what car you have or what belt. Not likely, as it's probably way too long. Early '80's full size Ford/Mercury cars had a much shorter serpentine belt with a STANDARD rotation water pump, power steering, and alternator. My '81 Mercury Marquis Brougham had that. So, the pulleys you need and a belt the length you need would work. Conversion to v-belt requires v-belt pulleys from a 302 prior to that time period, but again though with a standard rotation water pump, not the backward spinning back-of-belt-running-it 5.0L reverse rotation water pump.

Waterpumps of standard or reverse rotation can be had for $20.

My plan was to reverse the stock tensioner to pull up instead of push down and just run all the stock stuff with a short belt.
