Default Found a vin# etched in my rear glass

I knew my hatch was replaced by the original owner but I just noticed this today.

Vin from an 88 mustang. I wonder if the 88 was a show car. I called the number but it was for some kind of vacation getaway place. Needless to say I didn't win a free vacation when I asked for Steve.

    Vin info

Dang. Last reported date was August of 1987! That car was done in early. The one the hatch came from I mean. I have a '92 that all the windows are VIN etched too.

Yeah I like it too. Wish it matched my car. Must have been popular in the 90's. I had a 92 Toyota pickup that had the same etching on all the windows.

Last reported date has to be so long ago because the car was totaled and that's why the hatch is on my car. I'm guessing.

That's funny. I could imagine the reaction on the other end!

I think some insurance companies offered it as a service for a rate discount back in the day..

When I bought my 2006 Mazda MX-5, the dealership told me this and I paid an extra $150 to let them do it, but it's much smaller than what's shown in this thread without the dealer's name and all. Funny thing is, the state of California Dept of Insurance doesn't allow such a discount here.
