Default SVO fuzzy dash bezel reflocking

The dash and glove box bezels on my SVO were looking really rough. Nearly all the factory flocking(fuzzy texture) had worn off and it was stained and scratched in several places. I purchased a "suede tex mini flocker kit, nylon charcoal grey" for $32 delivered from a place at www.donjer.com.

The instructions was easy to follow. The hardest part was sanding the bezels with some 220 grit sandpaper to get them ready for the procedure. It took less than 30 minutes to apply the adhesive(which smelled like liquid Permatex ultra black/grey silicone) that you apply with a brush, then dust on the fibers with that supplied tool.

I'm not 100% certain on how it looks compared to a NOS panel but I do know it looks a ton better than it used to. I'm very pleased with the results. If you wanted a better color match I'd try to add some black flocking and mix it with the charcoal gray to make it a little darker still. Looks quite silver like with the camera flash but still looks quite good.

Here it is just after all the material was dusted on. Makes a pretty good mess. After it dries the extra will be reclaimed to be used again if desired. It just needs to stay on thick until the adhesive fully cures.

Here it is after curing and the dusting off of the extra material.

And here it is installed in my car.

Yes, the ones in my car are a bit lighter (or brighter) than stock. Also, from what I've seen, the fuzzy's tend to get darker with age / mileage. I think it's a combination of detoriation / dirt...

I asked on the SVOCA if someone could post up a pic of a NOS bezel for comparison but no one replied. Its a hard call to make concerning the color. I too think it aught to be darker but I'm not complaining considering what it looked like before.

I hope you did not think I was being critical. I think you did a great job and it looks very good inside your SVO!

Just wondering how did you remove the little light indicator pieces from the back. It looks like they are held in there pretty well on my extra one. I want to try to remove mine without warping or bending them.

Here's the 99 mile SVO that was just on Ebay

I think the originals have a little more brown in them. I'll happily take this over what I have:

It's actually not flocking is it? I've always remembered it as more of a textured sprayed on type of finish. The stuff is hard to describe. The 84 panel I have wasn't really fuzzy either.

If you look at the speedo close up on that 99 mile car you'll see the texture is nothing like the texture on Zap's 85 GT piece.

The thread at SVOCA has been updated with Andy's pics of a NOS panel. I added pics of mine that were re-done by Stackz. They're a little lighter as well but I like it and I'm satisfied.

These pics aren't the greatest but they'll do for now.

I just did two more bezels for a local guy who is restoring another SVO. These used to be a pair of woodgrain bezels. The main differences being the shape of the turn signal arrows and idiot lights were different. Just cleaned and sanded em for prep. Turned out nice. It'll work good for the guy.

Yeah I re-did mine with the same technique after seeing Mike's Car Domain page. Might not be factory correct but looks absolutely awesome and really "completes" the interior...
