    Default Breather Cap Gaskets?

Anyone know where I can find the breather cap gaskets that go on the stock 5.0 valve covers? I'm working an '84 GT for a friend and both are deteriorated beyond use.

For the odd stuff I usually try National Parts Depot if a member doesn't have it. Good luck!

Leather works very well for gaskets like these.

Buy some cork and cut your own? That's what I'm going to try as I need a couple too.

I just buy the cork gasket material and cut them myself. Sockets of the right sizes make great templates for clean cuts with a razor blade.

There is a Ford part number which dates back to about 68 or 69. I found it once. Making your own from cork is ok but only lasts a few years. Someone here suggested checking for hardware bins at your local building supply like Lowes or Orchard Supply for a similar shaped washer with the same OD and trim the ID to fit. Regular rubber will probably swell up. I have not found one yet.

FYI, the early ones were thick paper and the later ones were a stiff cork I believe.

I have actually found them at the Ford dealer. They have been in the same location for a long time and had a decent supply of common small parts.

If you can't find the "right" ones at a parts store, Home Depot has neoprene gaskets in those little bins in the hardware aisle that work really well. The ones I got were a little tight so I had to pry up the ears on the cap a tiny bit, but they worked great.

I recall I had to trim out the middle of the gasket with an xacto knife too. It took about two minutes. But it was effective, cheap, and just down the street!

You can buy thin rubber washers at your local LowesDepot, in the hardware drawer section, that have the same O.D.
as the original paper gasket. The I.D. is usually 1/2" or so, but a quick trim with some sharp fingernail scissors will
open them up to the correct size. They'll only cost you a buck or two, and they won't seep.

This is what I did, and no leaks for the past year. The rubber washer is a little thick though at the needed OD, so they will be extra snug when tightening or loosening.
