Default Pony R wheels - question

I've got an 86 GT Vert with 10 hole wheels and have been considering updating to 17x8 Pony R's in Argent.

I've browsed the Mavremont site and am wondering if anyone has had any experience ordering wheels from them and if so, how are they to deal with? What's the quality of the wheels?

    Thanks much.

Hi Bob, check out the galleries of escogt. Mike has both of his cars riding on Pony R's. Really nice wheels IMO and I know he will certainly be happy to chime in and help you if need be. I've been toying with the idea of a set in chrome for my 86 vert as well.

    Default Thanks Ed...

Bob, I've had Pony R's for 10 years now & could not imagine my GT without them. I love them so much that I bought a chrome set for my '81 also. Demetrio is the owner & a great guy to deal with. They've held up nicely & get plenty of second looks.

I don't know anything about the Pony R wheels but here is my white 86 GT convertible with 16" factory Pony's.

At least you'll have an idea how your car will look...

    Ed; Mike; Greg,

Guys, thanks much for your responses. I've seen pic's of Mike's & Greg's cars at various times and love how they look with the ponies, especially the 17's since they fill out the wheel well a bit. I've enjoyed admiring your cars and imagining how mine might look with some of your mods.

I am ejoying the heck out of having this old vert and slowly tweaking it to fit my idea of what it should be. Great to have a garage queen to play with. This spring / summer, I'm planning on the new wheels/tires and new upholstery as mine is suffering from severe sun fade.

I'll be sure and post some pics as I get the above done..

Thanks again for the info on the Pony R's.

Sure like how the 10"s look on your '81. So, maybe I consider them for my '86 vert... Need to think about what I would need to change to make them fit my 100% stock rear..... I'm assuming quad shocks would have to go but what else? Thoughts??

Looking at the pic of your '81, I see rear disc brakes so you've done some updates to the rear. What else have you done, what size tires, etc.....

    Thanks,

I've got the 17X9s on the rear of mine. I like the look of the 17X10s but I don't want to install wheel spacers or upgrade the brakes to make them fit.

I might have asked before - but for anyone else that might ask - what are the sizes of the tires?

Question: What are the stock offsets for Foxbody and SN95 Mustangs.

Answer: The stock offset for a 1979-93 Foxbody is 22.4 mm while the 1994-2004 Mustangs typically have an offset of 30 mm. Please note that these are the most common offsets, however, there maybe other production Mustang wheels with slightly different offsets.

    --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Question: What are differences between offsets? What does a higher offset mean?

Answer: A higher offset wheel moves the face of the wheel in towards the center of the car. Higher offset wheels are for Foxbody applications that use SN95 or similar brake and axles parts that typically push the wheels out toward the curb. For example, SN95 Mustangs have longer length axles to make room for the ABS sensors. Therefore, if an SN95 axle is used in a 1979-93 Foxbody Mustang, a higher offset wheel is needed to move the face back in toward the center of the car.

    --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Question: I have installed a M2300K Cobra kit on my Fosbody Mustang. Which Pony R® wheels will work for my application?

Answer: For the front we recommend our 17x6.7" or 17x8" wheels. However, if you want to run a 17x9" wheel in the front, we suggest the 23 mm offset.
In the rear, you should use either our 17x9" or 17x10" Pony R® wheels with the 46 mm offset for the M2300K Cobra brake kit

What offsets do you have on the '81? What are you running for a rear axle?

    The 17x8's have a 25.4mm offset while the 17x10's have a 23.8mm offset.
The rear is an 8.8 with fox axles.

what do you mean American Muscle only has a few? I just bought a set and they are on their way to me. The web site shows the 8 and 9 inchers in stock.

I talked with Demitri (I guess it was him didn't ask the gentlmens name) and if you what the 8,9 or 10 wheel you have to order them from American Muscle.

If you want a 6.5 in wheel he said he has some.

    I ordered 8s and 9s.

Perhaps I just got the timing right?
