I have an 84 anniv convt and trying to clean up my engine compartment. Is there any way of making my A/C compressor look better.

Are you wanting to restore it to a finish exactly like it was when new?

short answer, Yes.
I've tried a few things, carb cleaner, steel wool, fine sand paper. I repainted the air cleaner and send the lid to be chromed. I know it wasn't chrome orig. Sending my valve covers to be polished.
This is something I need to know as well, good questions, I'm sure someone on here can provide some good feedback.
Aluminum, or black spray paint.

Acid etching al rim cleaner will go a long ways towards getting a clean bare metal finish. Just be sure to get it scrubbed down with soda water and dried off and top coated with clear coat before it oxidizes again..... Which it will do in minutes or hours, not days.
I agree - paint is far easier. Brake cleaner will get the crud off so self priming paint will stick.
Ive also heard that soda blasting works for a natural clean to clear coat but I've not tried it.
I'm not finished but here is a couple of pics.
my friend brought over something that is used for cleaning home A/C unites.
I know I could paint it but I wanted it to look as close to what a clean orig engine bay might look like.
I just wanted the engine bay to match the exterior, It's just a nice clean driver. here is a pic of the exterior.

Crushed walnut shells in a blasting cabinet. It will remove oxides but not scratch the aluminum.

I'm an FEP Supporter and proud of it. Are you?
Decided to polish the air cleaner rather than chrome. Next to install an nos decal. Like I said I wanted it to look like a clean driver.
Mine is black amongst other things.

What was your process on the aircleaner lid...looks great! BTW...these valve covers clean up VERY easily and back to a nice factory look with simple degreaser, some steel wool and about 20 mins of elbow grease per cover. I've got one that I am working on that has discolored to near a copper color.

my chromer/polisher just removed the clear coat or the anodized and buffed[he soda blasted the underside], I put a coat of wax on.
I used a product mad by frost king for cleaning home a/c coils on all the other aluminum. I could of done a better job if I removed, but I cleaned while on the car.
