    Default 3.8L Camshaft thrust button

Does the 3.8L have a Camshaft thrust button? What stops it from moving around? Anyone have any pictures?

It was supposed to... explains the knock. funny how the rebuild shop couldn't figure that out.

Seems like the only way you can get something done right, you need to do it yourself.

Yikes... a rebuild shop removed and/or omitted it? ...

Yup. Growing up, I was told many times that if you want something done right, do it yourself... and so, that's what I do.

Umm...if you read the post by Walking-Tall, it says "Ford used a spring loaded cam button to preload the cam BUT IT STILL MADE A CLUNKING SOUND, so Ford switched to a thrust plate." So I would expect a 3.8 with a cam button to make a clunking sound, since they did it when brand new, causing Ford to redesign the whole setup. Doesn't mean yours has one. Obviously we have no way to know that but I still would expect a clunking sound.
