    Default Rear side window installation

Pulled the AREO side windows off my 82 GT. How are the side windows held in place? Is there some kind of brackets, or just adhesive? Also, how are the window frames installed?

The window frames are normally installed first. The bottom seats over the pinch weld. The two sides have tabs that bend over into the opening to help hold the trim in place. The later 4 Eyed cars actually have wire clips that slid into place to hold the trim if you happen to be using those trim pieces.

The glass is installed from inside the car. You will need 5/16" Butyl tape 3M Windo Weld 5/16" is what I use. a standard 15 ft roll will do both windows with extra. The glass is pressed up against the Butyl tape by small felt tipped brackets that screw into the sheet metal. I believe there are 6 or 7 brackets, but I would have to double check to verify. Most of the brackets are just flat metal with felt on the end to protect the glass. Two or three of the brackets have a 90 degree bend in them as the are on the door pillar and need the bend to mount properly.

I will try and get a picture of all of this for you today if I can.

I personally have not seen any. I would recommend checking with NPD to see if they offer any. Otherwise a WTB here in the Classifieds would be my next best option. It might be tomorrow until I have a chance to grab some pictures. Today has gotten away from me and I will be at basketball games all night tonight.

Here is a picture of the hardware that is needed to install the rear quarter windows.

Also I double checked and you need (3) 90 Degree brackets and 5 flat brackets.

You can find it online or at your local auto body paint supplier.

As I said, I like the 3M Windo Weld product. I believe #8611 is the 5/16".

Oh! FYI 3/8" is too big and 1/4" is too small for the quarter glass.

Congratulations on bringing the classic look back to your car! Personally I've never understood the thought process behind going to aero glass in the first place. For me I've always loved everything painted in high gloss base/clear. Was a lot of work to do it but the lines on my 86GT really popped like that. To each their own I guess. I know a lot of guys prefer the SVO style panels too as far as that goes.

If I had a set of SVO sail panels I would put them on but, to me the aero glass just does not look right on this car.
