Default 84 LX picking up tomorrow.

Supposed to be picking this up tomorrow. 6 cylinder conversion but obviously had a lot of effort put into it. Fresh paint and interior, always garaged. Car has not been started for a couple years, the owner and builder died in 2012 . My plan is make sure it's 100% solid and drive it . I'd love to hit some shows on the coasts this year. 347 stroker engine, AOD modified trans. Since I can only have 2, the Capri will be going.

Love those colors inside and out! Very nice. Does it have a trunk mounted battery I guess?

No GLX in 1984. That was a 1982-83 only model. In 1984 the convertible body was either LX or GT. So is it a 1983 GLX or a 1984 LX?

No, the battery is just not installed in that pic.

It's what the lady labled it as, but yeah I recently read that discussion. I'm pretty sure it's the 84 lx.

I was going to say the same thing. My guess is definitely an LX.

It would not surprise me one bit if she thinks it's a GLX depending on how it is registered with the DMV. Up here in NE, the DMV does not recognize the GT designation, so my 84 GT is registered and titled as a Mustang L. It's weird as heck and I even questioned it. The lady at the DMV said that was standard protocol.

Some states make the 'body style' the base model for the VIN. AutoCheck, Carfax, etc. do it too. For the 1984 model year VIN the base model for body code "28" is Mustang L. It could also be LX, GT, or SVO.

What a beautiful car. How,fun would it be to cruise around in that! Nice find, even if it's not a GLX.

Thanks again all. I feel fortunate to have it.

Got it home today. It was a day though. I was pushing off the trailer and some paint really started to flake off the bumper, not good. The lady said this car has not seen rain or wet roads in the 20 years they had it. I have it 4 hours and I'm jacking it up. I guess it'll make it easier to use the grill as a bug killer.

So I'm wondering why carfax shows the vin as GLX? According to the mustang decoder it just shows convertible. 1fabp273xef216108

Carfax is simply just wrong. Run the same VIN at Autocheck and you'll see it's called an LX there, which is correct.

I got the car running today. It seemed to run good except a couple little fuel leaks. So it also had been leaking transmission fluid when it was sitting. I was hoping it was something simple, but once started it was pouring out. Since my choices for local shops are limited I decided to just take it to Ford. They're supposed to be giving me a quote tomorrow. We're already planning a trip to the Grand Canyon in April in this. I can't wait to be cruising with the top down.

Got the car back from Ford with a clean bill of health, and a "you've got quite a car there"
Put 30 miles on it tonight shaking it down a little. First auto Stang I've had it's a little weird when the habit kicks in and I'm pushing down an invisible clutch pedal.
This thing has a temp/direction rearview mirror, with lights, pretty handy I have to say.

Next stop , wheels..... then EFI...

Hey Jim, my 83 is going strong. Well as strong as it can with the stock motor.. I'm going to be building another motor for it as soon as I can , unless another gotta have pops up. If there could be only one , it would be my 83, so don't be getting your hopes up that it's going to hit the market anytime soon. lol. Let me know if your hitting any of the shows around, I'm married , moved and settled, so it's time to put more time into the rides.

Oh yeah. Wheels came in today, but I'll be waiting till next week for the tires to show. There isn't a decent set of tires for a decent price within 50 miles it seems. I ended up getting the General G-max AS-03 225/55/16.

Also laid out all the manuals and documents I got with this car, I think I have the shop manuals covered.

That was a great find! Congrats!

Especially with a/c, I need to put the a/c back in mine from the previous owner.

Nice! I remember when the TRX wheels hit the scene when I was a kid. My older brother had a friend with a Mustang with TRX's in the Mid 80's and it would burn those little a$$ tires off after they made some mods to the car...I think a cam, intake and header swap. I was only 14 or 15 but that car was cool, even though it was about as stripper as could be. I am surprised it had turn signals it was so stripped down.
