My sons 79 cobra drivers door is shot at the bottom with cancer. Can you use the 80-86 door and actually relocate the door handle to the bottom? Or do we just need to hold out and look for a good 79 door?

If you are patient I can help. I am going to section an 83 door onto my 79 cobra to retain the low handle. I can let you know how it goes this summer
That sounds great. We arent in a hurry.

Yes, it can be done. Using the 79 door as a donor for the low handle sheetmetal will make it easier.
You will need to swap the 79 door latch, lock rods, etc. over to the new door shell.
Good Luck!

You need to use a 79-82 door the 83 and up are just a little different at the rear
The 83 up window frame is a touch wider at the B pillar.
