Default What did you do to your four eye today? 2017

    Re-starting this thread for 2017.....

I need to stop cruising CL, I found a decent set of mesh rims for my 82. Seller delivered them to me today

Here they are today before clean up

    And after clean up:

And to think I was actually looking for a few TRX rims to use with tires I already have. But I hate to pass up a good deal.

That's awesome! I have assembled all the parts to build a brake line straightener myself for my 82 GT! I am debating on making mine adjustable since I need to do 3/16 brake lines, 1/2 fuel, and 5/16 fuel lines . . .

I like the sharpie attachment too! I might have to steal that idea from you!

I finally had enough time to put a set of door seals and run channel seals on my coupe, then start to disassemble it for the v8 EFI swap this Winter.

Spliced the line I broke hitting some ice in my 86 tbird. It was only damaged on the return. Used a 1/4" splice and a few hose clamps, good as new. It was a balmy 48°f today, so I also did the ignitio switch and fixed my left turn signal not flashing. The bulb was just not seated all the way.

Only gotta swap a turn signal lense in the bumper and I should fly right through saftey and get my tags next day off.

This one is adjustable too, I just elongated the holes for the 2 bottom rollers to fit different sized tubing. It is crude but it gets it done.

For the sharpie trick, wait until line is all straight, then install the sharpie before you pull the tubing out, other wise the ink will smear all over the place (I found out the hard way )

In order to make JTurbo happy since he started the thread!

    Nothing!

I have spent the entire week trying to sort through my parts stash again!

Most of the time has been trying to sort and combine all my ziplock bags of hardware that I have removed from different Foxes over the years! Unbelievable all the bolts, nuts, screws, brackets, etc. that I have accumulated. If I ever get it organized I will never have to buy a bolt, nut, screw, etc. for any of my Foxes that need to be finished!

Drove it, and it's a joy how good it runs for a tired old 3.8! ... ditto yesterday, and the day before, and the day before that, and...

Installed new Inner Tie Rods. Easier than I had expected for a change.

I have a little side to side shimmy in my steering wheel, do you think this could be tie rods? What is best way to check them?

That is likely also an easy fix. That is probably what is called the RAG joint. It's less than $15 at NAPA. A little aggravating to install but not HARD exactly. Could be from all the wheelstands, (your sig) LOL.
BUT, to answer your question, jack up the front end and grab the front wheels at 3 and 9 o'clock and try to wobble it. The wheel should not move AT ALL. You should not be able to move the wheel. If you have someone do that while you observe the area where the rubber boots are on the steering rack, you will see all the play in there if the inner tie rods are the cause. It could also be the outer tie rods or even worn bearings. The test is the same, you just have to see where the play is if there is any. IF the wheels don't move, inner tie rods are fine. That does sound like a rag joint though.

Thanks for the info. I have new struts and shocks ready to install so when I do that, I will give the front end a good inspection, starting with rag joint. Thanks.

Temp in high 50's this afternoon. January thaw.

    Replaced broken ts/horn/dim combo switch.
Decided on a Duralast UDS425 38.00 in stock
    Works solidly as it should.
Cleaned embossed white lettering and polished stalk with 0000 steel wool before reinserting.

Noticed rt innermost tail light bulb was dimmer than the rest, rt side slow to flash.
Found bad ground in that socket. Plastic of the socket, at the ground wire terminal, was cracked open. Age.
Bulb also had a burned out filament.
Repaired, cleaned all contacts with mini file, replaced 1157 bulb. All bright again and normal flash.

Checked and aired up all tires plus the spare (had 15# in it).
Did mid season under hood inspection.

I've got my Cobra apart for many changes which include the installation of a Wild Rides Torque box reinforcement kit for both the upper and lower control arm points. I also bought the Competition Engineering lower box outer plates and all have been bolted into place but I need to have them welded in. Once that's done, a thorough cleaning and re-painting of everything will commence, including underneath the back seat. From there, I will be installing a new pinion seal, crush collar, and new brakes on the rear end before it gets reinstalled into the car. Finally, my 347 stroker motor is going back together and when that is done, it'll get reinstalled. I can't wait to feel that 420 rear wheel horsepower again!

I've got to "git r dun" because I want it all back together 100% by the end of February so that I can drive the wheels off of it in March/April to make sure it'll be alright for the 3 hour cruise to Mustangs Unlimited on April 30th.

Did some work on the P/S floor and sealed some interior seams. It was a beautiful 50 degrees and really wish I could have taken it for a spin. This was the first time since November that the car has seen the sun.

    Hey Joe,

Did these come off that parts convertible that was in your area? I was contemplating on these if so, but didn't feel like making the trip since they looked really filthy. They look awesome now!

Wow! That's great! So glad you got them. I am honestly surprised they cleaned up as nice as they did. I expected the worse when I saw how filthy they were on the Craigslist add and didn't bother to take the two hour one way ride. Even better that he delivered them to your work.
