    Default Ran my 86 gt

Hey all I'm new here, ran a new best last night of 14.24 @ 96.3mph with a 2.05 60ft. The picture below is a better run except I missed 4th. Mods are full exhaust and 3.73s and no air filter. Car is 1986 hatch gt 5 speed.

Are you planning on some performance mods and if so what will you do first? I just got my 85 and am eyeing some new heads.

I have an explorer intake manifold and a fox e7 throttle body sitting around but in trying to hit 13s before breaking anything loose. I also have some DART iron eagle heads but I think they won't work with the 86 flat top pistons. I'm not interested in fly cutting.

Damn, that's a strong run for minimal mods!! Nice

Get that 60' down and you won't be far from 13's maybe into the 13's if you missed a gear on the run you posted.

Nice runs! Can't blame you for not wanting to break it open, that's a strong 86'.

Best pass in my 86' with the stock 270k mile motor was 14.62 at 94mph with a 2.12 60'. 3.27 gears and 5spd.

I have a few things I'm fixing right now and will repost the results. The wheels I have on there are hopping when I spin them in place and the driveshaft is slightly bent causing a vibration. I'm also putting a cold air extension on my stock air tube to see how it does. Really trying to break 98mph in the traps.

Keep at it. I'm trying to get to the 12's with my 85GT. 100,000 mile mystery motor. Only engine mods so far are roller rockers and pulleys. AOD car with suspension upgrades. 13.62's @ 99.5/ 1.876-60' with messed up shift points. Popped in a SilverFox MVB to get my shift points in order.

Did you notice any difference with the rockers? And are they 1.7s? Tell me a little about the suspension.

Motor felt torquier with the 1.7's. No name lowers with boxed stock uppers. Air bag in right rear spring. Strange adjustable front struts. H&R sport springs.

Nice! You are knocking on 13's for sure. I'd dare say that if you upgrade your rear suspension with better shocks and lower control arms, that'll get you there.

You are also close to your 1/4 mile time limit for the power it's putting out. Trapping at just over 95 mph tells me that you're in the 220-230 hp range.

Put an e-cam in and ran a 14.15 @ 96.42 on street tires. I need to adjust the fuel settings when I get my fuel tuner in. Got some 90/10s for the front and 50/50 rear all Lakewood to install at some point.

When you say full exhaust... Do you have long tubes?

I would remove the intake silencer, add a KN air filter to the factory air box or add a cold air kit.

I would advance the base timing by ear. Turn the dizzy until the engine just starts to speed up then back just a degree. See if it starts ok or if the motor hitting stops the starter. Run premium gas!

i would go to a short belt routing.

I would consider under driving the PS pump via larger pulley or going to a traditional under drive kit.

I would increase launch RPM and work on clutch release technique.

I would remove any extra weight.

I would add shorty headers. Ditch the H pipe and mufflers at the track- switch to 2.5" pipes.

A stock 86 with this stuff done to it and launched hard and shifted full power in anger should run 13's at over 100. Very low 13's or high 12's are possible with a mostly stock setup and the right mods.

12's will be on quality drag radials or slicks with a great 60' of course.

I had 2 86s back in the day. They would put the power down, I'm just smoking the tires through 1st and 2nd, having to work the wheel to keep the rear from coming around, and this was all stock with 2:73 rear end! What a blast. My "new" 85 just ain't quite there....yet. I'm working on it and it will get there.

A 2.73:1 with a driver that's skilled in clutch release technique can leave HARD and do well at launch. Credit this to 3.35:1 low gear in the GT T5's.

It is hell on clutches and you will burn them to nothing but it will improve your 60'.

my cars best time slip on street tires came with perfect clutch technique and 4000RPM launch point.

You might try holding your 3.73:1 car at 2000 then pop the clutch at start. As soon as the tires stop spinning go to 3/4 throttle then roll in it. Run each gear to around 5k rpm then leave your foot on the floor and bang the next gear.
