    Default SVO LCAs upgrade

Just wondering what you guys are upgrading the front control arms to on the SVOs. One of mine is bent and the other has a dead ball joint. I know they are longer but I'll be putting aftermarket wheels on it so I can choose the back spacing. I see some of the guys make them in a +1" which would make it about the same length as the stock arm is now. I'm hesitant to put stock GT arms on because I'm not sure what that does to all the geometry. Last thing...is the spindle on the SVO the same as the GT?

The simplest solution is generally the SN95 front control arms. Either stock or aftermarket.

The down side is that you will have to either cut your OEM springs are go aftermarket as your front springs will be too long.

The spindles on the SVO are actually Continental spindles and are unique on the Mustang, so they do not interchange with any other stock Mustang/Capri spindles. They can be used with the SN95 ball joints, but will require this adapter.

There is a bunch of good information in that link too. Hope that helps.

Why are you focused on SVO stuff? It's hard to come by, and SN95 stuff is way more common and better in general. As for control arm length, stock Fox (Fairmont, Mustang, etc) is the best way to go on a Fairmont because there's so little room under the fenders for wide wheels. Even with stock Fox control arms, if you upgrade to SN95 spindles, you will need very high offset wheels such as S197 Mustang wheels. I find that offset is a more useful point of reference than backspacing. Your geometry will be fine with stock Fox control arms and SN95 spindles if you get yourself some caster/camber plates. I know of a couple of guys that have SN95 control arms on their Fairmonts, but one guy has ridiculous unusable camber and the other pulled his fenders out some TWO INCHES.

The Fairmont is long gone. This is for my 85 SVO I'm redoing. I'm going to start searching local junkyards for the arms and spindles off an SN95.

Replacement sn95 arms by moog can be had for about 90 each. New bushings and joints plus new paint to boot.

Well, that would be a good reason.

I have had 2003 cobra arms, 88 gt arms and now I have fox length tubular MM arms. Just make sure you get a set 94/95 spindles if you do not want to keep the SVO spindles. Tho like stated above with the MM adapters any 94-04 LCA will work with the SVO spindles.

Weighing my options. Out of curiosity what spring rate are you guys using on the SVO when doing the coil over conversion.

I have yellow koni's with the MM coil-over kit and I have two sets of springs, 300 lb and 325 lb. My car will be geared more for auto-x and track events more then daily driving.......I have not driven the car yet as it is still being built so I cannot tell you the ride quality yet.

Here is a link of what I did for the front suspension.

That is not a bad deal. The biggest down side I see is that the aftermarket replacement ball joints are nowhere the same quality of the OEM Ford ball joints and that affects your ride quality and ride harshness. MM has the best prices on OEM Ford balljoints that I have been able to find and I highly recommend going with the Ford balljoints over Moog, Raybestos, etc.

Another option is find another set of svo arms and have Jturbo machine the ball joints out and replace them with sn95 joints. I did this to my svo and am very happy with them.
