Thread: No Option Cars

    Default No Option Cars

Just curious if there is a list of every option that was available for the early foxbody cars? What are the least option cars you have seen? Have been wanting to find a t-top coupe for a while or a super low optioned coupe. There was a coupe in Maine on craigslist that didn't even come with a factory passenger side mirror and it got me thinking about the low option cars again.
Looking to buy a 1981-84 T-Top Coupe. Any motor, transmission, or color. Let me know what you have or find!

Sport seats, a stereo, and a passenger mirror. Probably why everything still works in mine!

Not a Mustang, but when I bought my 78 Fairmont 2 door sedan, it was about as bare bones as possible. 4 cyl. 4 speed, manual steering and brakes, no radio, rear defog, on day/nite adjustable rear view mirror. Instead of the larger "aerodynamic" door mirror(s), it just had a drivers side Pinto style mirror screwed to the door, not to the door frame. Bare aluminum bumpers with no rub strips or bumper gaurds, no stainless trim around the door frames or wheel well openings, no hood ornament, did not have an inside hood release, had a release latch above the drivers side head light bezel. Also instead of chromed steel window crank handles, they were black plastic. Instead of fake woodgrain on the dash cluster, it has ribbed, painted plastic. I weighed the car as soon as I got it, with 1/2 tank of gas and the spare tire and jack in place, it was only 2680 pounds. I thought that it would be a good base for a drag car, and 30 years later, it still is!Name: PhotoScan3 (5) - Copy.jpg

My first 86 cougar was almost a stripper model.

Only options were 302 v-8 and full digital dash. No passenger mirror, no tilt steering wheel, hand crank windows, no rear defrost. In 10 years ive seen three 83-88 cougars/birds with hand crank windows. My first one, and the one I pulled off and put on my current 86. The car I pulled them off of they had just picked up on a forklift and we're bringing to get crushed right as I got there.

The other was a base model low option 87-88 v-6 car.

Thanks for posting foxchassis. So looking at the list, at least in 81, you did not have the option of no heater Im guessing. Have you seen any 79-93 cars with no heaters or a/c?

There was never an option to delete the 'heater'. If the HV(AC) ducting and controls were removed it was done by a previous owner.

Air conditioner was always optional in all 1979-93 models except the mid 1984 through 1986 SVO (exc. Comp Prep) and 1993 Cobra R.

I've seen 83, 84 and 85 coupes with no options other than the 5.0/5-speed drivetrain and radio delete. Also seen stripper GT's all three years, including a radio delete 83 and 85.

Do you have any pictures? Was a manual top available instead of power in 86?
