    Can anyone guide me to a link to find cam specs for a 77-79 thunderbird?

    The H code for that year could be one of two types.

    Long rod 351M or the so called 351W, which was also named 351K in some literature

    One had the stock 256 in degree Cleveland cam, but there was a second 256 but with 266 degree on the exhaust cycle for 400's and 351M's.

    The other was the ages old non HO 351 W cam, which was always a C90Z-6250-A 256/270 split duration cam, but it got installed differntly, and the deck height changed to down grade the engine further in 1971.

    In 1980, they started creeping up the duration figures on the 351 W HO, 1980/81 351 HO had a VIN Code G 172 hp , then 165 hp engine, up from 151 and 140 hp.

    Cam was FoMoCo E0AZ-6250-A, and all I could find was the 50 thou lifts of 206 in/221 ex, and 443/453 thou total lift.


    The first 1969 351W was initially a virile 4V engine with C9-OZ-6250-C cam, a Shelby Cobra 290/290 degree cam in the 290 hp version, or C9-OZ-6250-A, 256/270 in the 250 hp version.

    No full specs on the D6 OZ 6250 - A cam, but heres some lash and 50 thou, these are the best readings I can find.

    The cam you want is the actually the E0OZ 6250-A cam, which is the 1972 SBF Marine cam D2JE 6250-BA cam ground on a wide 115 center. This was the cam that the 5.0 pre-release 1982 GT and RS 5.0 press cars were reported to have in the fall 1981 Dearborn proving ground Fox body Mustang and Capri cars. They down graded production cars to the D3OE-6250-AA to give better low end torque.

    It is just the D2ZZ-6250-B 1972 351C Cobra Jet cam profile on a Windsor master, with 270 degrees intake duration and 290 degrees exhaust.

    Used in the 255/4.2 Car and Driver Project Mercury Capri. It had better 4-bbl intake and full free flow exhaust, it looses a lot of low end torque, but less on the 5.0, and I say none on the 5.8. It gained 39% more power, or 45 hp and 20 lb-ft with all those mods.

    Putting a 115 lobe center cam on a 4.2 hurts the low end too.

    Look for some of those E0OZ 6250-A / D2JE 6250-BA specs in your aftermarket cam.

    Confirming D2ZZ-6250-B 1972 351C Cobra Jet cam profile on a Windsor 351 master. Lift differences are the rocker arm differences of the Cleveland 1.73 verses the Windsors 1.6:1 nominal ratio. Its just the same.
    270 intake /290 exhaust duration,
    hydraulic,
    and 206/221 duration at 50 thou lift,
    and 443 and 453 lift,
    115 lobe

    Based on 80 and 81 LTD's and Crown Victorias, that same cam is worth about 14% more power on what you have with no other modifications.

    I'd punt for a really good 4-bbl carb and intake with this.

    The nominal 630 cfm 4180c or a 460 truck four corner idle 4190c on a 4-bbl f150 intake would be my pick, and some better GT40 heads and some headers.

    One other carb that really works well is the Thermoquad 4bbl , not a well thought of carb,


    but used in the Aussie Falcon/Fairmont/Fairlane/LTD's 1976 to 1982 and some De Tomaso's from 1976 to 1989. The Aussie ones had an electric choke, and a common Part # is TQ-9142S



    To use this, there is a common 76DA-9425-CB carb flange intake



    Edelbrock makes an adaptor for 4bbl square bores to suit its range of Edelbrock Performers, but its also a good ThermoQuad adaptor too.



    That version was listed in the Australian Ford bookes as the #9600 series, with its 800 cfm 1-3/8" primaries.

    Rated at 188-207 hp net in 302/4.9 Clevelands, and 200 to 216 hp net in 351/5.8 Clevelands. In 1979, each were rerated downwards 16 to 19 hp, largely an on paper loss due in part to manadory single exhaust, added emissions gear, and DIN net ratings instead of SAE net.

    They raced these in New Zealands provisional International Group A / FISA Group 2a sedan racing, with stunning results, later on, the ex butcher/long time Logistics Stichbury family used them in Paul's Red XF so-called "SVO" Falcon with a transplanted XE 351 C engine.

    There is a common #6545S 850 cfm 1-1/2" primary version used in 1975 360 LA and 440 RD engines. There were 9000 to 9800 part numbers from 1976-1984.

    Its basically a pumped up Rochester QuadraJet 4MV or Motorcraft 4350 750 cfm unit with some seriously cool stuff in the 1978-1984 ELB ( Electronic Lean Burn ) era versions, namely a throttle position sensor!

    That allows you to run a hardhitting wide ratio 4r70w 4 speed which would go stratospheric with T birds 2.75 9" gears.

    And people are buying it like its a 1977 to 1979 Thunderbird.


    They got saddled mostly with the 351M, but you bore em out 30 thou you get a 357,



    its a spike the accountants loved. Remeber how all the Ford car guys wanted to talk about was two seat 55-57' Thunderbirds, yet all the accountants wanted was four seat T birds?

    The 1995 Ford Mustang SVT 351 R cam is just the 1972 Cleveland Cobra Jet cam profile remastered.

    Same as the D2 Windsor 351 Marine

    and E0 G VIN HO 351 cam.

    Its the flat tappet hydraulic cam I'd pick.

    Ooops. Confirming that the 1995 Ford Mustang SVT 351 R cam is basically the 1972 Cleveland Cobra Jet cam profile remastered. The intake lobe lift is probably the same as the Cobra Jet, the net lift is with 1.7:1 rockers, not 1.73. Note that the actual net lift is 478 thou on the 351C 4V CJ, and 490 thou on the exhaust. So some of the quotes for the 1995 cam might be different.

    Valve Lift 0.453 int./0.453 exh but used 1.7 ratio rockers that basically made the cam a 0.481 lift

    In a similar way, the G VIN HO 351 cam, E0OZ 6250-A, for 1980-1981 HO cam for the 351 Windsor in Panther platform cars actually had 10 thou less intake lift with 1.6:1 rockers, 0.443 vs 0.453" and 2 degrees less 50 thou lift than the Marine 351w and 1995 cam. It was a reprofile to suit the emissions and CAFE requirements.

    Jack Roush from 1988 to 1994, had been playing with the 5.8 spec, starting with the 375 hp twin turbo 351w for the 25 Aniversary Mustang,




    then sending a engine overseas in Australia. It was a 1990 EA Ford Falcon 351 GT development 'hack'



    which was suposed to be written off. Instead, it is proof of just what Jack was up to for the Ford motorcompany world wide.

    Standing 1/4 mile - 15.4 seconds after factory emiisions and durability test 50 000 miles. The engine was way down on power, and was on LTD rims with 205 65 15 tires in a 3500 pound car.

    It was a factory Ford prototype. The car never got released, or sold to the public. The concept car was shown around the motor shows then disappeared (they thought!) but the late Adrian Ryan and some helpers from inside Ford Australia, took this and put it away. Like all certified pre production developement hacks, Ford Australia wanted it crushed. After many years later and long forgotten, it was returned when the Discovery Centre Opened. It was red when Wheels tested it in 1990, then got EB updates and blue paint for the Melbourne Auto show.





    Its the flat tappet hydraulic cam I'd pick.
