Default Where did this rubber bushing come from?

When I got in my car ['84 LTD LX] after work yesterday, this rubber bushing was sitting on the floor near the clutch pedal.

I've looked around and don't see where it came from. The bottom part is clean and flat like it was mounted to a large flat surface. The only wear marks are the "ring" on the top and a spot on the side right next to where it is broken.

Accelerator pedal cable is my guess.

Stand on your head and look up under the dash and see if it looks like it belongs around the top of the clutch pedal somewhere. I'm thinking it might be a bump stop type piece for the clutch pedal arm.

Kinda looks like the rubber section that is bonded to a large flat washer, that the clutch cable goes thru, at the firewall, under the hood. The steel washer is attatched to the firewall with a small screw. Maybe the rubber split, and fell thru the washer, and inside the car. Does the clutch cable seem to have excessive freeplay?
