Default Hemmings - Tangerine Dream: We drive an unrestored 1979 Mercury Bobcat

I have always loved Pinto's. We had a blue on blue station wagon when I was a kid.

Love it! My aunt had a burgundy 80 squire wagon. I thought it was very cool even when I was 13 years old.

    I had a '77 Squire Wagon...I loved that car.

This one...I also love, but the plaid upholstery would take some getting used to.

Outstanding. I had an orange 78 wagon 2.3 4 speed, wish i still had it.
2 door wagon with an ecoboost 2.0 would be perfect.

I love it but I'm bias as it is the same color I chose as a kid for my dads 79 Pinto wagon.

Wow how did you find that Mike? I'm surprised that someone posted my old cruising wagon. Just read all the comments. Kinda sad I sold it but I am so glad I have my Saleen in its place. Anyway, I still have my dads wagon and my turbo hatch.

Growing up, my dad had a pinto and my mom had a bobcat. Same color brown, dad's was a 2.3 moms was a 2.0? My dad always talked about how much more power the 2.0 had.

I agree, I had a 72 hatch with a 2.0 and 4spd. It had much more power than my dads 79 wagon which has a 2.3 and 4spd. It was actually a pretty fun car to drive. I sold that when I got the crusing wagon that Mike posted above road worthy which had a 2.3 and a C3. I did not like the auto at all as it felt like the car had about half the power as the 72 did. Kind of interesting that there was a 2.0 in a Bobcat. I have never seen that done before. Cheers!

Sweet car! I have a soft spot for Pintos seeing as 3 of my first 4 cars were Pintos (2 '37s and a '74). If you were wondering what the other car was of my first 4 it was a sweet '70 Impala 4 door hardtop, which was also the recipient of my very first engine swap.

The article says their '79 doesn't like to rev past 3 grand. Try pushing the pedal to the floor !!!
Drove two of "these" growing up. A 75 Pinto coupe, automatic that I got to 110mph (down hill, with the wind on a long stretch of freeway).
And a 77 Bobcat wagon, 4 speed, lime green with "wood grain" on the side that would rev to 6 grand in 1st and 2nd as easy as counting 1... 2... 3... 4... 5...
