Default Repairing Small Hole in Rear Bumper Cover

Working on a car to help a friend sell....1984 GT Vert with a nickel size hole in the rear bumper cover. It is actually in the "rub-strip" portion of the cover. What product can I use to fill this hole, and where can I buy it?

Also, what is the SEM paint that I can use to spot-paint the repair and some of the rub-strip where it has faded down to the yellow. For 1983-1984 it seems to be a Matte Black of some sort, not Charcoal like on my '85.

Also, Jturbo has done some great bumper work on his 82 GT.

Nice...looks like that would work. What about SEM trim paint to match the original matte black....still need help on that.

I use this Dupli-Color paint. It seems to match original finish on the trim and bumpers pretty well. Now, I restore my side moldings by thoroughly cleaning them and using a trim/plastic restorer like Armour All. Some folks repaint their side moldings but I like restoring the factory vinyl surfaces. This paint matches the restored side moldings nicely.

So it matches the factory trim black from 79-84? If so, I'll give that a try...thanks.

Either way the dupli color or the SEM paint is a flat black. So if you paint it you won't be able to get the exact look especially if you use something like Mothers back to black or similar trim dressing that is made for vinyl and plastic trim.

The part that I am painting has the hole that I will be fixing, plus a few areas of the rear bumper trim has some fading down to the yellow....so simple armor all or Back to Black will not suffice. Going to have to do some spot painting, or paint the entire rear bumper trim

I can't speak as to the SEM but the Dupli Color is a satin black like the original. I suppose a test sample before actual use on the car would help determine the better match.

Well..I bought that paint yesterday so if it sucks I'll be coming for you. JK ;-). Hoping it works out, but at the end of the day it should be much better than how it looks right now :-). Thanks for the tip!

Long trip back across the country but bring it on!

This is the last car I did here. Dupli Color on the rear bumper "trim" and restored moldings.

Well then...if that is the result, I will be very happy with that! Heck I might even spray the moldings behind the rear wheels if there is a noticeable mis-match. It's been said several times since Foxtoberfest but I'll say it again....so proud of what you guys did for Travis and his family on that car!

Hey Fearnot...just wanted to say THANKS for the recommendation. Both the bumper repair kit from Autozone and Duplicolor Bumper Trim Paint you recommended worked out perfectly. Sorry I did not take any before and after pictures, but this bumper trim looks fantastic now. Got the bumper put back on last night and taillights back in. Very pleased with the result. Now time to do some polishing on the paint and this puppy is ready to be sold. Look for a FS ad in the classifieds in the next few weeks.
