    Default Getting there ....

I have been really working on my suspension getting it dialed in. Previous best 60' was a 1.45, and in reality I felt that was about what it was capable of. Went to the Ford race at Mason Dixon Sunday, first time hit it went a new best 60' at 1.44, 2nd time hit it went 1.40! Did something silly in the first round of eliminations, but got one more test hit later and went 1.43 60'.

Best pass to date has been 1,55, this was 1.58 with less boost in slightly worse air. I feel like I'm getting the short times dialed in enough to run some better numbers in fall air. Waiting for boost weather

    Well that's getting it done!

How'd you wind up with the mark of the beast number?

Short answer - It's been my track number for years.

Long answer - A long time ago, around 2010, I used PR2300 (Pittsburgh Raceway, 2300 cc's) ... Then the timing system at the track got hit by lightning and took everything out. They bought a new system that timed to 4 digits after the decimal, really nice system ... except, they could only enter a 5 digit car number now ... I needed to use the "PR" track designator, so 3 digits left ... wanted 140 (140 cubic inches) and a few other numbers that was all taken. Was there at the Halloween race and didn't know what to use so just said give me what's on the tech card ... That happened to be 666, it was available, and it fit my freak show. I've used it ever since.

And froze our asses while it snowed (lightly) and smoked a clutch after you had put bigger injectors in. Good times **cheerstothat**

New picture from Bowling Green. Last year at this race I struggle to go 1.58-1.66 60' ... this weekend I was 1.44 every pass ....

I know that picture, had lots of them myself. Countless hours laying under the car asking "why you no hook", making changes, and test passes. Finally feel like I got my hands around it.

Went to test and tune Saturday to shake down a new head and cam. Couldn't of been happier with how the car did .... I have been sneaking up on air pressure while I've been fine tuning. Set tires to 15# and kept them there all day. 5 passes, 60' times was 1.40, 1.41, 1.41, 1.38, 1.40 .... super excited at that for a stick car on a DOT on a test and tune track (line was ok, but not national event good)

Also managed to bump into a new best pass. Still tweaking but all forward progress ....

I own a GoPro ... when I'm testing, I am screwing with the laptop to data log so I'm not screwing with the camera too ... if you scroll through my YouTube videos I have a lot from GoPro.

I hope I'm not done enough for a signature update yet.

Turns out my last pass for 2016 was a new best. It had gone 10.26 and 10.27 in time trials. Had the car dialed a 10.25 and made one last small suspension tweak. I knew it was on a pass and ran it out the back door ...

Way to end the year on a high note Bob. It was obvious you wanted the new best as you made absolutely no attempt to drive the stripe. I'm sure you could have had the win if that's what you wanted more, especially considering your advantage at the tree.

Looks like you knocked almost a full second off your et this year. That's really impressive since you were already running good at the start.

So now you can almost smell the single digits. You'll say you don't want to install the full cage, but I know how you fast guys are, no matter how fast you run it's never enough!

Thanks Mike. Indeed, I new the car was on a great 60' and a solid pass. I did look over my shoulder and think about the brakes but would have hated myself if it was the timeslip I thought it was. The track was going away as the sun was setting so I'm not sure there was another chance. I have no regrets, and am happy to break out on a 10.25 dial

I really have no intention to do the safety updates for 9.99. Winter upgrades include my fuel system, some items in the bellhousing, looking for about 50# of weight, then going to NMRA Bradenton to run the stick shift shootout. After that race I'll turn the boost back down to run next summer. It's nice to have options for 11.00 index, 10.50 index, or run 10.90 bracket racing. I want a single digit pass to say it's done, but it isn't eating me up. It would take a gear swap to actually do that, and it would kill my slower packages.

Amazing what you have gotten out of that car Bob. Truly inspirational to us other red headed step kids!

Im curious how much help you got from Tim this year and would you say that is what made the difference?

Well, I bought that head second hand, and it's only been on here the last month or so ... What has made the difference is getting my hands around the clutch so I can go flat out and 60' like it's been without blowing up transmissions. I've always been able to make more power than I could use, I just (sort of) got my hands around managing that, and turned it up. The head is very much being held up by my intake manifold right now, then we will see what else is stopping it from shining.

He's still running a 2.5 turbo 4, like what it came with. Modified, of course.
