Ok, so the engine just turned over for the first time in what, 3 years. The Holley computer and ignition aren't wired up though. BUT, I need an Ed U Ma Ca Shun. Educate me.

I am tucking the wires and doing a lot of cleaning up and removing wires I don't need. I've wired in headlight relays. I am getting ready to wire in the TFI coil (I have TFI with the Holley C950). The underhood connector that the factory coil connections come out of, along with the oil and temp sending and some other stuff, is roasted, so I am going thru all of that. Red/Light green is coil +. But if you trace it back, it goes to a splice and connects the Red/Light green wire to a brown/pink wire. I thought, cool I can get rid of the splice and have 2 wires hot in start and run.

    WRONG!

I tested each wire. It's hot in key on/run position. Dead in crank. Each one individually.

BUT if you hook them together, it has battery voltage in crank. Obviously, this is the way it was and it worked, but I am CORNfused!

I've got a EVTM and the wiring schematics. Both the R/LG and B/PK wires go back to the ignition switch.

    What am I missing here?

Any who, I am rewiring the connectors for my digital cluster and I am pushing forward. I'm sure the gas in this thing is sludge...maybe just maybe I'll need to go get some fresh gasoline tomorrow and try to crank it.

No worries! Stay safe down there! I'm just tying the two back together and splice the coil into them.

It runs! I wired the ignition back up, finished replacing the trailer connectors on my gauge cluster with something more appropriate, and hooked the Holley C950 power back up. It took me a bit of time to get my old laptop that hasn't been turned on in 3 years to reconnect to the ECU. First Key on and the fuel pump primed. I was interested to see if i had the ignition wired correctly, the C950 software lit up, FUEL PUMP ON, meaning it had ignition signal. I kept cranking and it took a few seconds to prime the fuel up but it fired right off.

And SMELLED like ass. Damn nasty gas. I forgot to hook up the alternator, so I hooked up my alternator and was wondering if it was going to work. 14.6 volts. Voila. But it only ran about 6 seconds and quit. And doesn't want to start...no biggie. I actually think it's out of gas. Next weekend I'll get a few gallons of fresh gas and some fuel treatment stuff.

Now the real fun begins....organizing, wrapping, and routing the wires. I think that will be the biggest challenge to me to get looking clean.

In reality, I am getting it running in order to sell the entire car or the engine.

If I sell the entire car, I want to find a stripped out fox to put a 2.3 turbo in and play with. If I can't find a buyer or even a partial trader, I will probably put the 2.3t in my car. I won't be the first, but I am sure it's the rare V-8 to inline 4 swap.

Progress is being made. The passenger side from the brake booster to the fender is pretty much done. I have the A/C pressure switch back on there...it's not hooked up and the connector is kind of roasted, so I will replace the connector. But the wiring is there when it is time to hook the A/C back up. The drivers side....

A different story. It was looking pretty scary, but yesterday I got out there and started pulling wires tight and bundling the huge mass of wires. It's gotten much neater. My headlight and fan harnesses though, have a lot of excess wire. I might need to shorten them up. Or I might just zip tie the excess up behind the headlight. Out of sight!

I'm pretty happy with the results so far. I used the nylon split braid loom I have and love the look. No more of that convoluted tubing. I have to go play plumber at my office for a while. Maybe when I get back, I'll go get some fresh gas and make sure this hoopty does indeed still run and my fans actually come on.

Under the hood is close to being done. At some point will wire the A/C back in. I will probably go ahead and replace the pressure switch, but it's pretty much done under the hood. I am happy.

Now to finish organizing fender wells and start buttoning things up and put the fender back on. I have a big 10 gauge red wire laying on the brake booster area. I am going to run that back thru the car to the fuel pump relay and replace the 14 or 16 gauge wire feeding the fuel pump now.

Yesterday I pretty much got finished with the passenger side. Need to test all the lights and everything, then slide the fender liner back in and it's done! I also cleaned a little bit. It looks so much better now. There are some studs in the fender that used to hold the altitude compensation solenoids...I used one of them to hold a clamp to hold the wiring harness. I used another existing hole for the other with a bolt and a nut.

    @qikgts, thanks!

It looks better after a couple hours of sweating in the heat yesterday. I got the main harness in the drivers fender loomed up. I have a bunch of tape outs, for the headlights, fans, fog lights, a/c and a bunch of grounds I still need to deal with. For each tape out, I slit the braided sleeve on both sides, so it could wrap around flush, then 'sealed' it off with electrical tape. I ran out of black so had to use Ford Blue...LOL. Of course, once the fender liner is back in, no one should ever see this again! I also got the distribution center pretty much closed up with the bottom cover and put in it's mount. I had to change the battery lead stud to a shorter one as it was too long for the cover. I need to put the red locking blocks back in the distribution center. Then test everything and make sure all grounds are tight. Then I guess time to put the fender and the fender liner back in! Oh yeah, looking at the pics, I need to put the drivers side horn back in and connect it.

I also was a little bored and waiting for Kickoff of Kentucky/Miss State #HailState. So I redid my zip spark plug wire separators. I think this looks better, since the first time, I left out the coil wire and it looked like it was just hanging out waiting for a party.

No, with the C950 I don't need it, so I took it out. I have it listed for sale. If I don't sell it, I may put it back in eventually.

    Looking good, Drew.

What's fabric tape stuff you used to wrap the wires out of the distribution box?

I need to invest in some of that braided wire loom. Sure looks a lot nicer that the split loom I've been using.

    Thomas,

It's not tape. It's split nylon braided loom. I got it from Ebay years ago. I can't find my purchase history that long ago, but I think this is similar. I bought it in several diameters.

I'll warn you the smaller the diameter of this stuff you get the harder it is getting it on a wire. Especially the 1/8 stuff on one wire. But the result is worth it imo.

I haven't seen a tool for the 1/8" loom in my searches, but a wire loom installation tool(s) can be a huge benefit if installing a lot of loom.

I've seen those before. WHen I get to working on it, it's too late to order one, then I forget about it. On the 1/8" I just used a tiny screwdriver.
