The LED headlights I put in have a top half, a bottom half, and a dash across the middle. The outer low beams just light up the bottom half. The high beams light up the inner light top half. I need to rewire it so the entire top and bottom come on and the outers are off. I think it will look better, even though it will probably never matter! But once I do that and get a pump in the washer tank, I can put the fender back on.

Fixt! Now on high beams the entire inner lights light up. Just made a jumper and soldered it on.

I guess the transformation to strip car begins. I picked up a set of Team Z rear drag springs today and ordered a Strange coilover kit with 12" 150lb springs to go on my adjustable Strange struts I picked up. I'll get it together and see what the 302 was actually capable of...then sell it and make way for the 2.3 Turbo.

Black Friday came early at my house. I got a QA1 K member because of the interchangeable motor mounts, Strange Adjustable rear shocks to go with the Team Z drag springs, I already picked up some used Strange struts, so I got a Strange coil over kit with 12" 150Lb springs. Oh and a Clutch Tamer too. I guess when the 2.3 goes in, I might need a lighter spring, maybe 130lb.

Anyone wanting a pretty stout 302 PM me...it's time to start going turbo 2.3.

A box came in yesterday with goodies in it. A beanman T4 SS header. I already need MORE TURBO. Or an adapter. LOL.

More progress. Finally tore down the shortblock. Looks to be in good enough shape to slap back together and send ALL THE BOOST. Cylinders are round with almost 0 taper. Pistons need to be cleaned..the rings were getting carboned up. Time to pull the 302 and slap this in and start mocking it all up.

Yes that's a (former) bath towel. I prefer to work with the soothing smell of Downey!

Bath towels and old diapers (cloth remember them) make the best car towels/rags. diapers are fantastic for washing cars and bath towels are good for anything. I get all the reject towels from the house.

I popped it open. Still Ford STD rod and main bearings, so I guess it's never been touched. All the bearings are in good shape. One rod bearing has some scoring, but I'll put new bearings and rings in it, dingle ball hone it and snap it back together. Probably get a new oil pump as well. I bought some polished and shot peened rods with ARP rod bolts for basically nothing, so I need to swap the pistons over. I bought a bore gauge and there's nil taper or out of round, so everything is going back in.

Today's task, if I choose to accept it, is getting the crank timing gear off. What a beotch it is being. I lightly sanded the snout best I could. Soaked it with some penetrating oil last night. I ordered the Ford puller off Ebay for $30, but it won't be here for a week. The aluminum front seal cover is purposely designed to keep you from getting this gear off with regular tools.

It's a factory square tooth gear, so I could always just get the zip wheel and cut it off and replace it with a complete round tooth setup with adjustable cam gear.

I had to resort to violence but I got that crank gear off. I tried penetrating oil, prying on it, but was worried about damaging the aluminum cover, finally read you just take a chisel and whack on it til it cracks.

    Mission Accomplished.

It may be sitting on the engine stand sooner than later. I ordered a ton of stuff to slap the 2.3 shortblock together. Big spending items left are the cam, HLA's and rockers.

Default Piston Kleen - Does it work?

Last night I dunked the pistons and some assorted junk in the Piston Kleen to see if it will soften up or remove the carbon.

I'm about to go turn on the garage lights and see if it worked or if it's false advertising.

The press is do a piston swap to a set of rods I bought that already have ARP bolts. That's for after everything is Kleen. LOL

Well color me impressed. It worked well. Piston Kleen...Amazon.

I bought a ring groove cleaner. They pretty much cleaned right up. There's a little baked in hard carbon in just a couple of spots in the ring grooves, so I am going to let them soak again tonight to get that last bit loosened up. Wash them off tomorrow night and run the groove cleaner through again and they should be good to go.

Piston 1 was kind of notchy on the rod. I bought some polished rods a while back that already had ARP bolts for a lot less than just ARP bolts. So I carefully pressed the pistons off today. When they are spotless I'll press them on the new (to me) rods.

Funny thing is, not number 1 but one of the other piston pins looks a little scorched. Probably run hot or with old dirty oil. The bearings didn't look too bad, so I just took some 1500 grit paper and polished them up.

That stuff works great. Soaked 3 of them again last night. The ring groove cleaner just wiped that gunk out tonight. I spent an hour yesterday with the groove cleaner and what was left was really hard and caked on....impossible to get off. Tonight it just came out in huge clumps.

Seems reasonable...but I worry sometimes that EasyOff isn't easy on aluminum. I have used it to degrease a block and it works like a champ!

Finally finished - read the entire thread. Very nice btw. I am thinking now whether to go with my 302 (needs rebuilding - that would be a conversion) or my stock 2.3l that the 91 notch came with.

Thanks @ flyboy60. I've gotten more done but also got to rethink somethings. I was hoping to make an edelbrock throttle body elbow bolt onto the lower intake, but there's just not enough meat on both in the right places to either get the bolt holes in the elbow where I can actually get a bolt in or there's not enough on the lower for a gasket to seal. So plan b, I've ordered a lower intake billet spacer....going to cut the flange off the Edelbrock elbow and weld the spacer on. Maybe.

My t3 to t4 flange adapter/spacer with wastegate flange is warped so bad it's not worth even trying to have machined. Who would have thought a $24 POS from China would be defective. So I am going to use a billet divided adapter plate from one of the diesel places that's closer to $100 and put the wastegate back in the header. Or maybe find a suitable t4 flanged turbo.
