My wife is enjoying a quiet Mother's Day reading out on the patio with some margaritas. Going to grill steaks in a bit so why not use this time to rebuild the HX35. I got this thing cheap and it looks like it was hardly run. It was supposed to have come out of a classroom environment. But the bearings are trashed...so much so that the compressor wheel has hit the housing and damaged it. So I ordered a stock style 7 blade replacement. But I got it apart, cleaned up and replaced the journal bearings and thrust bearing, plus the o-rings, oil deflector, etc. As soon as the compressor wheel comes in, I'll finish reassembly.

Well, does anyone out there want to trade a lightweight or drag Fox roller for this as a roller? In a few weeks, I am going to pull the 302 and offer it up for sale and start putting all my parts and a cage in this car. I wouldn't mind trading for equal value for a roller already setup for drag racing.

Let me know if anyone has any interest. I'm in the Memphis area. I'll also post a video of the engine running and list it when for sale. If anyone is curious, I'd sell it as it sits for $3,500, which would be a great deal since it has a brand new T5Z, and a pretty stout 302. It was dyno'd at 275/275 at the wheels when it ran a 9.15. After the heads and long tubes it picked up to 8.51 so I guess it's around 325rwhp now.

If no takers, I'm looking for a roll cage for a hatch, manual rack, manual brake setup and some other 'race' parts.

Well, the 85 left yesterday. The buyer, makemeknowit is a member so maybe he will keep a thread on here about it.

I'm looking for a first gen Falcon to put the 2.3 turbo in.

Hmmph. Didn't think you were serious about gauging interest in your 85. Good luck to the new owner.

Are you going to be Falconing around here?

I didn't know I was that serious until he showed up and bought the car. I thought I would be kind of sad, but really I just got to where I was stuck in a box where I didn't want to do anything else to the car. It's like I needed to either go completely strip the car and race it or get everything working, get it painted, make a solid cruiser out of it and I couldn't decide which way to go.

If it's ok, maybe I can post in the 2.3T board and keep it going on FEP!

It doesn't have 4 eyes, but it will have a 2.3 Turbo. Currently, I am installing an AJE K member to convert the front to Fox/SN95 strut suspension. I bought the K member from AJE, but everything else I either had or bought used, FB Market, or Ebay.

Yesterday, I cut the shock towers out...may still cut them back farther, not sure. Today I mock up the K-member. The AJE kit is designed for 64.5 up Mustangs. One thing I didn't know until I started, Falcons have the shock mount much lower than Mustangs. So when I mock it up, I have to see if the ride height will be acceptable or if I need to move the entire shock tower up. OR Summit has the AJE prefab mini shock tower in stock. It costs less than dropped spindles.

So here are some pics so far:

Thanks, Trey. I am excited. Well not as I was last week.

I mocked it up, the right height is great, but I only have about 2.5 - 2.7" of shock travel, compression. So tower surgery is going to be required. Not unexpected, but there will have to be some time to think this out. I saw a pic that someone made on a Mustang. I'm thinking something along these lines, but not quite as high. If you look at my pics, the upper bolts on each side of the tower are for the reinforcing piece in the fender well. I'm keeping that, and think if I go up to about there or maybe a tad higher, that will be enough. I fear the example below has some top of strut to hood clearance issues.

Well, I did it. I got my brother to come spend all day Saturday and part of the day Sunday in my garage...with 110v Century FC90 flux-core welder. Need to get a 220v outlet in the garage, but the panel's full. Going to have to do some breaker moving and jiving to get room, but that's another story.
So, the 1962 Falcon and all early Falcons have short shock towers. When I put it together, with my SN95 strut coil overs all the way down, the ride height was MAYBE low enough, but no way to get lower and definitely, not enough travel in the strut on compression, only about 2.75". The strut has 6.5" of travel, so we figured we needed to be in the middle or maybe a bit past, so 3.25-3.75 inches of compression travel would be acceptable.
We cut off the top of the shock tower and made 12 gauge plates based off the MM caster camber plate mounting plate. I've also upgraded those bolts to grade 8 because at some point an export brace will be fabbed up using those to tie back to the fire wall.
We made a 'spacer collar' we called it, to space the shock mount up 2 inches and then it was a matter of cutting, grinding, welding, grinding, hammering, grinding, welding, grinding...well you get the picture.
In the end, I got the ride height to be 25" at the front fender to the ground. That's after moving the coil overs up 2". SO it could be lower. The great part is with us fat boys on the front (let's just say 500lbs, there's still about 3.25" of compression travel with 150lb springs. I am planning on running a 2.3 turbo (Lima) so I think those will be about right.
We also permanently mounted the K member. I put it centered like the instructions say because the wheels are pretty centered there. I'm using the totally adjustable lower control arms (Ebay) that have rod ends and basically a strut rod, so I have some adjustment move the whole thing around
I'm about to go start stripping all the engine bay to paint it black.
