Default Mustang II console in Fox Mustang

Pretty neat to know one more part that interchanges from other year Mustangs.
The II had similar parts that were redesigned and carried over.
Where are all the factory round woodgrain MII/Pinto manual shift knobs that match wood grain dashes?

The II's lower lid and side button would suit me better.
All the later style taller bins do is collect more junk or make good stuff hard to dig out.
And front opening lid is awkward, rear hinge mount and front latch break.
My bin side also cracked badly due to tendency to lean on it reaching over to the pass side.

    So much interchanges.

The hard dimesions of the Fox body dash weren't changed from the first Mustang II dashboard buck made by L David Ash in early 1973.

studio chief Dave Ash decided to make his "seating buck" unusually realistic to convey a sense of being in a real automobile. He even attached exterior sheetmetal and four wheels.

"It was a time-consuming thing to build," he said later, "but it served its purpose very well. We didn't have to go through an elaborate series of meetings to determine everything. It was all approved right here. We were on a crash basis to get it done, and it was very enthusiastically received."

The hard dimensions of the Mustang II were decided from the Don De La Rossa "Anaheim" project of September 9, 1971. The Fatstang replacement didn't rate in late 1971. The Mustang II was reborn that month of 1971.

Later, the OPEC embargo of 1973 made the S shell and so called Fox project a goer. It then got a true shot of adrenalin when it used the Mustang II and Pinto chasis and interior pickup points, the power steering was first previewd in the MII and Pinto. When the De Tomaso Longchamps, Ghia, and Italian and Lincoln Mercury Mustang II and Capri proposals came in, it was easy to see that Ford were on the right track with the MII/Pinto/Fox hard points sharing. Feedback form Europe was that the Audi Fox and Opel Commodore B and Vuaxhall Ventora were gonna be 105.5" wheelbase coil sprung cars, so the sucess of the captive import Capri made it easy for Dearborn to fast track the sharing of floor plan shapes to make a new Maverick/Mercury Comete replacement.

The 4-1/4" four stud hubs, steering and interior pickup points and 6.75 " axle hardpoints weren't changed when Lee Ioccoca signed off on the Fox.

So a fair amount can be swapped over.

That blog spot is from Ford of West Memphis. My older brother went to high school with a guy who has worked at the parts counter there for 20 years. It's a very small world when a Kiwi links something from West Memphis, AR.
