Your gateway price, is in my opinion , just going to make you hate your work .
You will have your paid time , stripping the car ....
...no pay for the rest .
I have been around those you described , doing the same as you , working for that gateway to being recognised for my skills.
I make more money doing my craft , to joe public , and treated with more respect.

Bwaahaahaahaahaa! Thanks brother! I had to laugh at that.

i dont give a rats red bunion hole about rich rich people and all that they have. Good for them. They've done well for themselves. They have more money for me.

I just want a really bit*chin' red and blue car! That's what it's about for me. I LOVE my 4i'd cars. They're my babies.

It won't make me hate my work! I love painting cars. I can appreciate what I'm getting ready to work on without lusting for it. It may sound crazy, I lust after what I already have.

Painting is what I am, the rest is what I need to have to do what I do.

I love painting because I know what a good paint job is. Nothing more. I may be the odd man out. I love doing what I do. If I'm recognized, great. If I'm recognized for my skills and this leads to higher paying side jobs, then, super great! More money for my two sweet little beauties!

Screw respect. that's not why I do what I do. I do what I do because I love it. If other appreciate what I do, then bonus time. I KNOW what a good paint job is. This Impala will have that, then my red car will have a sweet little 408 screaming love tunes to me because of that.

When I say gateway, I mean to higher paying jobs that bring more profit for my sweet little fox bodies. More money for my cuties!

Only lung silicosis or terminal illness will stop a true car painter doing his work. Way to go dude. Your not suppossed to tell everyone that GM guys bankroll Fox chassis presevation....if thats not in the Four Eyed Pride Charter....it should be!

I opted out of car painting, not because I can't or couldn't do it, (I did my Minis, Falcons, Cortinas ans To-jotas) but because I found another gateway income. I love the smell of paint, but even more, the nutty responses of a rich person who has you doing his labor. I don't care they are loud and obnoxious, or meek and mild, nothing beats a well healed one comming in on Monday to pick up there ride. Nothing beats a pannelled hack being rebuilt to be put back in service. Even if you "no like" the kind of car your working on.

I painted a Zincron Green Metallic HGZ Holden Permier, an L34 Holden Torana acran engine bay, a silver VH commodore, and my very yellow GM vauxhall Velox. I hate GM cars, but there isn't anything as sweet as your labor being rewared with other peoples sheckles, and just a little bit of a smile on the drivers face.

The IRS can be paid by doing Genetically Mutated brand, and you won't have a problem going to bed each night with a smile you cannot have removed by being pistol whipped by Bad Lerory Brown...

I seriously wish I was in a position to do a full blown repaint on my car right now, because I would be contacting you to do it. Maybe in the future I will be working with you and getting my car down your way to have you spray it. I can only imagine how good the 8Q tan would look with your touch.

Keep up the awesome work brother!

Thanks Brock. Too bad I don't still live in Iowa, would've been an easy trip.

My son went 7 hours and 453 miles round trip to get milk....he actually went to the How to Destroy Angles and Josh Holme concert. I've never been so close to disowning him....he didn't bring any milk back...

    Default Driver's Door

I've still been busy at work, but between coats of paint today I got the door torn down. Name: IMG_3064.jpg

I had to reweld the lower hinge that was broken free.Name: IMG_3063.jpg

BTW, Here's a convertible glass next to a t-top glass. The one in the back is the one from the driver's door, the one in front is from the convertible passenger's door that was a donor. The t-top is clearly taller. The donor convertible was an '83 also.

It's a giant circle, I started this thread with a door, and here I am again with a door....

    Default Door Still

You can see in the last post that I sand blasted a little bit around the edges. There was some rust along the bottom of the doorName: IMG_0657.jpg
Views: 442
Size: 82.5 KB

So I broke out my little hand held sand blaster and went to town on the rust.Name: IMG_0658.jpg

I don't know if you can tell from the photo, but there is next to nothing from damage from rust. Just tiny little pitting that primer will fill. The door is in remarkable condition considering its' lifestyle.

From the pics, I bet a lot of folks would have passed on that and trashed it. Thanks for showing us how deceiving rust can appear.

While I was working, I wanted to work on my door a little. What I needed to do was to use my sand blaster and clean up that jamb.

So how does one do this when one has customer cars around him? The right way? I apparently had no idea because what I did was to take a bit of the plastic i use for covering cars prior to paint and climb inside with my door and blasted a bit. After the pain of doing this became too great I took a break (Hey! I'm a painter, not a rocket surgeon!).

Anywho. since I was forced to look at every square inch of this door while blasting, I noticed the lower mount hole for the window guide rod was wallowed out.Name: IMG_3065.jpg

Here's what I'm thinking. The previous owner was an enormously fat water buffalo butted, chicken by the bucket eating, plus sized person.

Remember my cracked floors? I don't think it was the wild 115 crank horsepower that ripped up that steel.....

I see a ham sized petite fist grabbing that window to help them unplug a possibly record breaking attempt on how much cellulite you can fit into spandex from that poor driver's seat. Leading to the guide rod on my poor little blue car stretching out it's lower attachment hole like the owners thighs after a night at Golden Corral's All You Can Eat Buffet.

I decided to just weld a washer in the right place. I'll smooth my welds with a small amount of mud so it won't be overly obvious.Name: IMG_3066.jpg

Monday I hope to have the jamb all cleaned up and etched and primered. Then i can work on the outside for a little while. Eventually I will reseam seal the inside.

I'm a little dissapointed in you. I figured you would cut the hole out and weld the washer flush at least.

Hah! Yeah, well. A little mud will smooth it and then I won't allow anyone to look under my door afterwards.

Hate to ask but, isn't that hole supposed to be long like that so you can adjust the window in and out? Or did you know that already? I'd hate for you to need to adjust it later and discover you can't.

My guess would be that someone was trying to compensate for a bad window seal due to other reasons (loose hinges, bad weather stripping or problems with the T-tops) and elongated the hole to try to get the window adjusted to seal.

I checked on my other t-top doors before I welded that washer on. Just a nice round hole on them.

    Default Driver's Door

So I've been working on my driver's door. I finished blasting the jamb side and got it in primer.Name: IMG_3072.jpg

I decided to go ahead and flip the door and strip the paint off of the outside. Name: IMG_3075.jpg

Then I primered it and started an initial blocking with 150 just to see where it needed the most attention.Name: IMG_3078.jpg

I used my puller to pull out the worst of the dents. I may get mud on it today.

I still had time so I ground off the primer around the door handle area and out about mid-way through the upper and spread some mud. I'll block it tomorrowName: IMG_3082.jpg

Hopefully I'll finish the bodywork tomorrow and have it in primer again.

Almost done with the bodywork. I still need to get the top of the door where the belt moulding goes.Name: IMG_3083.jpg

I also got these off of CL for $50. It's a set of four with decent tires. Decent enough for the blue car to make it out of the salvage yard! Yay!

    Default The Wheels are MINE!!!

I also picked up my ten hole wheels today.

These won't be my permanent wheels, but I will have them for a while I think. I have lots of other areas to spend money on at the moment!

So, I was thinking about painting them. Take a look at this picture. The Andy's green is what my son would want. That's the green of the GLX on my hood. My boy is my heart, so I might do what he wants, but this might be a good chance for him to see that just because you want something, doesn't mean you'll get it.Name: IMG_0662.jpg

Tell me what y'all think. I can be swayed on their end look. I'll clean them up tomorrow, they're just disgusting right now.

The main point is, I have wheels with ROUND tires that I can put on the car so I can load it on a trailer now!
