I'm assuming these threads are inherently made for some entertainment, so I'll start with a little background on myself and this project. I grew up with a love of all things Ford, and especially a love of Mustangs. Most of this spawned from my father being a Ford mechanic who still works at a Ford dealership to this day.
When I was 15 I managed to save enough money to buy my first car,a 1986 Mustang LX Convertible 3.8L V6. It had a blown head gasket, but that's the beauty of having a mechanic for a dad.
Of course as a young kid I was a little disappointed that it was not a 5.0L, but it was what I could afford. That said, the old 86 was subject to the wear and tear of a new teenage driver, and eventually I sold her to buy a newer commuter car when I started college.
A number of years later after college, jobs, starting a family etc.. I decided to ditch the motorcycle I could no longer find time to ride (can't throw a 4yr old on the back and go down the road) and look for that 5.0L fox that I always wanted.
I found a number of local foxes that always seemed to be way to rough. I can handle mechanical issues, especially with support from my father, but when it comes to body work that is just something I'd prefer to stay away from. I happened to mention my interest to a co-worker one day at work, and I got a surprising response. "Well, I know where there is an 83 Mustang in great shape that you can buy. My dad has one he has been off and on trying to sell." I took this with skepticism, but asked for his dad's information and contacted him regarding the Mustang.
The following photos were some of what I received.
