I have come to a difficult decision that my hardcore restoring days are probably done. I have multiple project cars I will be selling over the next few months, beginning with my black 1984 SVO.
Interesting to note:
The odometer and title shows 60k miles
All black paint on the car appears to be original!
Really pretty tragic how it ended up.
That said,
This car is in rough shape, it was picked. I more or less saved it from the crusher. It could be rebuilt, or it could be a parts car. That said, it has merit, so I will try to describe it as best I can.
The car was originally from North Carolina, but the person who brought it up to PA then took it apart and then left it outside for a few years and so it has a lot of surface rust and sun damage.
The main damage is on the roof around the sunroof area, it will need a roof skin.
The underside is solid but it has a lot of surface rust from sitting in a muddy lot. It will need a good going over with a wire brush or blaster and some POR chassis paint to correct the scaling.
The rest of the body and chassis, the quarter panels, doors, rocker panels, floors, frame rails, and door post / pinch welds are all good solid metal, but are peppered with young (scaling) surface rust.
This chassis could be saved, it's a big project, but I think it is doable.
The leather interior is complete, but the front seats need recovered. The dash pad is shot. The speedo and the title read 60k miles, which I believe to be accurate, and quite tragic really.
I started the car to load it on and off the trailer, the motor ran, the turbo spooled up, it did not knock or burn oil. The clutch and transmission operated. That was the extent of my testing.
It sat outside, so the motor compartment was crusty but still functioned. I started to take the top end of the motor apart to clean and repaint things, but I never got past removing the intake and valve cover.
The motor has been upgraded by the previous owner to 86 brown top injectors and corresponding ECU and big vane meter. It has a Ranger roller cam and an adjustable round tooth cam sprocket gear set.
Like I said, I did hear it run. But it is not running now.
It has a hillbilly straight pipe side exit exhaust welded to the original down pipe.
The brakes are rusty but worked enough to pull it on and off the trailer and into the garage under its own power. That said the entire brake system will need to be rebuilt because of rust.
I have the 4 original wheels. Tires are shot but do hold air.
Car appears to still have its OE rear Koni shocks and quads shocks!
Front Konis have been replaced with OEM replacements
Items not pictured I do have with the car
Front marker and signal lenses
Rear SVO tail lights
Nice used SVO horn pad
Nice used door panels
Fuzzy dash bezel
Upper bi-wing
Car has an Aluminum drive shaft ($200 value)
Non original SVO hood and (2) 84 noses with minor damage
It has a 93 LX hatch on it. I do have an upper bi-wing.
SVO sail panels and fender spats are present
SVO rocker panel covers are present
SVO shifter knob is present (leather is tired but there)
The factory stereo system has been hijacked
All power window stuff is present
All the glass is good
I also have lots of spares, good used koni struts, a turbo block, rods, pistons, crank, t3 turbos, E6 intake and exhaust manifold, T5 TC trans, 1984 SVO pinned SDS computer system (worth $1200 alone)
Feel free to ask general questions but let's not get too carried away online. It's a basket case. The best thing is for a local buyer to come see what I have in person and then negotiate a sale.
I'm a motivated seller, so bring a cash offer, and your trailer with you!
Car is located in Pittsburgh, PA 15205 (near I-79, I-76, I-376)
Asking $1800 for everything I have SVO related including SDS computer system.
Negotiation could mean you take home less stuff
I'll sell just the SVO and all her parts (no spares, no SDS) for $1200 obo
This is a limited pre public sale for FEP members!!!
Let's get some offers rolling, thanks!
