Me? I'm partial to deTomaso's because I love Cleveland engined hybrids with "Conquestadore goes Home to Modena" storylines...its a back to Camelot fairytail.
I guess if cost were an issue, I would use this, and thrash it. Its like a valuable Yugo with Argentine attitute.

But its not, and after some consideration, the last 302 Cleveland powered Bowell Nagari is THE CAR. A pure Aussie made 2-bbl grunter that had that American made special de-stroked 351c 2V with a super restrictive 240 cfm Bendix Stromberg WW 2-bbl, and probably no more than 156 real horsepower at the flywheel. They weigh in at about 2200 pounds, and are insanely fast.
But it’s such a cool car to club race, and they were actually designed for lighter Windsor 302's, but as a cost cutting exercise, in 1971, Ford Oz decided to put Cleveland’s everywhere Windsor’s used to go, and an Aussie cast 240 hp gross Y code 302C was 569 pounds and 1 inch taller and had bigger heads and was 100 pounds heavier than the previous years imported F code 210 hp 302W.
So here's a Nagari 430 hp 347 stroker with the original lighter Windsor amped up.

You know this got me thinking, I don't believe I could trade my Pace Car! The few times I thought about it, it felt like a bad idea, like trying to hack off my arm with a dull knife. It will always be my number one. So it must be the Pace, and the 68 Cougar Xr7 390. I guess that means I will just have to daily drive one of them and keep the other as my "one" weekend cruiser! hah?
I wanted a 1979 Mustang Pace Car since they came out, but student loans and other Mustang ownership (14 fox chassis Mustangs from 1980-2015) delayed my Pace Car ownership until last November. Now that I have it, and though it's the slowest Mustang that I've ever owned, I would not let it go to get any other collector car. I'd even sell my 1 of 8 NHP SSP before I would sell my Pace Car.

Esco,
I'm curious how your Butt Dyno compares the 85 5.0 4V and 93 Cobra? I'm kinda jealous and wanna know how you compare the two drivetrains using just your real world driving descriptive terms.
How they feel, how they differ, things you prefer, etc.
Not necessarily which one is "better"
I would have a hard time giving up this one in order to keep the Pace Car, but luckily I can keep both & hopefully will never have to choose between the two.

Hmmm... good question.
I love the sound the 4V 5.0L makes from the intake to the exhaust. The '85 idles & feels more like a muscle car than the Cobra.
The Cobra is more refined, smoother but pulls harder than the GT. I'm sure the GT40 heads & intake have something to do with that.
Love them both & it amazes me how different each one drives & feels.
I have three cars that I want to own someday and they if I'm ever lucky enough to pull ownership of them off, they will all be heavily modified. I don't care if it hurts re-sale value or pisses off the collector car purist Nazi's. My goal is to bang gears, run mid 11's with all of them, drive them as much as I can, and win trophies at the car shows. They include (in no particular order).....
1. 1969 Dodge Charger - I had one of these as my first car. It was just like this one in terms of color and vinyl roof. Unfortunately, it had a 318/auto combo that was a DOG. I'd love to tell you that it was in mint condition but the truth of the matter is that it was a 16 year old car that was well beyond the point of being nice. It had a brand new paint job when I bought it (but a LOT of Bondo to go along with it), new covers on the seats (that didn't match the rear seat), and a big rot hole on the driver's side floor. On my $3.75 hourly salary back in 1985, I wasn't going to afford a restoration anytime soon. LOL!
If I were to re-create this car today, it would have a stroked 440 big block/6-speed combo and in Naturally aspirated form, the biggest, widest Magnum wheels that I could fit in there, and it would be running 11.50's @ 120+. I don't want to put a roll bar in any of my cars so 11.50 is my cutoff as far as speed is concerned.
My 2nd car would be a 1970 AAR 'Cuda small block in ANY crazy color that they came in! Of course, this one would be modified as well, with a stroked 340/6-speed and it too, would run 11.50's @ 120+. I would keep the factory side exhaust and stock wheels but the rear would be widened as much as possible to keep that stock look.
Finally, my 3rd choice would be a 1970 Boss 302 in ANY crazy color that they came in. Like the others, this one would be modified with a stroked 302/6-speed combo and it would run 11.50's @ 11.20+ like the others. I would keep the stock wheels but modify them like the 'Cuda's stock wheels.
Purists would want to kill me but I wouldn't care. As long as I could drive either one of these modified rides around, I'd have a smile on my face. They would be better built than stock and look better too.

Heh, Pete!
Stunned to see 2 Mopars on top of your list!
About apologizing for wanting to stroke, I remember reading a big brew haha about that in one of the vintage racing mags. It seems many vintage raced TransAM era cars are stroked (wink wink).
LOL! I hear ya there. While I would own many other cars, including a '65 Mustang Fastback, those 3 are at the top of the list. As for performance, the stock motors don't do it for me - even the big blocks. I LOVE seeing old '60's cars with new, modern, fuel injected motors and 6 speeds or stroked motors and 6-speeds. It's the wave of the future and it makes the cars much more enjoyable to drive because now you can take them on long trips down the highway without any issues and make more power than the stock power plants
