    Default T5 Rebuild or Replace?

Are there codes to consider on the T5? In the "matching numbers" sense? I've developed a 3rd gear vibe that spells impending doom. I've used an out of state reliable source for T5 remans in the past but they want the core. I can have the Predators T5 rebuilt locally but it's more expensive and I've had to have (2) pulled back for warranty work using (2) different local sources. I really favor the out of state reman option. So the million dollar question is whether my Pedator T5 has codes to consider.

The t5 in your car will have a code that tells the date. No other visual clues that I know of. If you're worried about having a "correct" t5, just swap the tag over. Get a world class t5 and never look back. If yours is original, it should be non-wc.

No markings on the case that identify it. Just a tag attached to one of the bolts.

I may have given you wrong info. Some info is available in the casting numbers (although not specific to your particular car, it can be somewhat date-coded).

There are guys around here that will rebuild a T5 for around $500, so usually it's about half the cost of buying a new unit. If there are local mustang boards to you, post up and ask if anyone locally rebuilds them. There's usually someone that does it as a side business, apparently it's not super difficult (although I've never tried it!)

Just be careful about low rebuild estimates. A "GOOD" rebuild kit costs $350. Then there is the labor $200-$500, and that is if it does not need any other internal gears or hard parts not included in the rebuild kit. It can get out of control pretty quick. I've rebuilt T-5s that came from reputable shops that the guy spent $1400 getting it rebuilt. Customer could have spent a few hundred more and gotten a brand new T-5Z.

Don't worry about the "Matching Numbers" VIN on the transmission case. Swap the tag and Re-Stamp the VIN on the replacement transmission if that's such a big deal.

Corvette weenies have done that for YEARS!!!!
