I need to break out the buffer and try a pr of 79-82 lens. I did a pr with a headlight restore kit and they look ok for a driver. I also did a pr of aero LX lights on our high speed buffer and they turned out like new. The 79-82 lens will be a bit of a chore on the big buffer.

True! But they will have to look killer on my Pace Car! The tail lights on the GT will look killer when I am done with them too!

I guess I am just lazy, but it just seems to take forever to get them polished well, especially the older they are. This way works really well for me and I am happy with the results. If I had a really good set of lenses then I might consider polishing them, but that isn't the case at this point in time. I guess my propensity to buy diamonds in the rough causes much of that!

Sorry to dig up this old thread, but I just recently restored my 83 & 79 taillights respectively. Worked from 400 through 5000 grit, and sealed it with a polish and wax.
Only issue is I have some serious dust/dirt build up inside the reverse light specifically, I know they look individually removable but I'm willing to seperate the whole lense if it's easier, I just am unsure how, since I definitely do not want to break/crack anything. Thanks for any help, and here're some pics of my work.

    x2

Have had one backup lens get damaged when car was down about 20 years ago. 1979 taillight.
BU light lens can be removed cleanly using a new razor blade to score thru the old glue bond.
Removed the damaged one, then transferred a lens from a spare taillight assy to the one on the car.
They are made of pretty thick plastic 1/8" inch or so.

Before i did that, went to my dealer's body shop and asked what they would use to reinstall the lens.
3M 03601 Plastic Emblem and Trim Adhesive- did the job.

Been a while, but sort of recall a little drain slot at the bottom of the lens.
