    Default 140 mph speedometer?

Hey I was wondering if there is a cheap way to go to a 140mph speedometer. Was there perhaps any mustangs in 79-86 that came with 140 mph speedometers and I could just switch clusters? I really don't want to spend $800 on a Dakota digital cluster. Any info helps. Thaks!

There were 140MPH speedometers offered back in the day, remember that the cluster gauge faces changed from 82 to the 83 model year. 79-82 seems to be more rare and more costly. 83+ are more common and pop up on eBay and such.

SSP vehicles were equipped with "certificated calibrated" 140MPH speedo's, but they are even more sought after....

The SSP (Police) Mustangs came with 140 MPH Certified Speedometers, but their clusters are hard to come by and can be very expensive.

The 1984-1986 SVO Mustangs were equipped with a speedometer capable of reading to 140 MPH although it was only officially marked to 85 MPH from the Factory. The Tick marks are there, but no numbers from 90-140 MPH. You can buy gauge faces that will read out to 140 MPH.

Ford also sold through Motorsports the 140 MPH speedometers. There were two models, the one for the 79-82 cars and the 83-86 models since the gauge fonts and colors changed. These units can be hard to find and again can get expensive.

The SVO speedometer is the easier and generally cheapest upgrade.

BBK made a 170mph speedo as well. According to BBK 500 were made for 79-86 and 500 for 87-93. I have one in my 88.

I guess I was lucky, I just picked up an 86 that had a 140 speedo already installed.
