Thread: Route 66!

    Default Route 66!

Was curious if anyone here has traveled the old route 66 before in their four-eye? My wife and I have really started talking about it! And she likes the idea. Just gotta give our boy a couple more age and then I think we are gonna go for it! I personally can't wait!

I didn't do all of it; and not in my 4-eye. But I did take my 1965 Volvo from Kansas to New York and hit the portions of 66 that I could find along the way.
It was a fun ride and lots of people looked at the car, gave thumbs-up and asked..."hey, is that a Studebaker?"

I haven't in any of my four eyed cars. I did part in my 68 Fastback back in 2014 as part of the 50th Anniversary with the Pony Drive. Some parts of it are just too rough to drive but plenty of it is still drivable. It a great trip.

That looks like a great time! Would be cool if I could do a part of it in the GT, but I dunno if I would trust it that far.

Hi. Which sections are "too rough" to travel?

I'd like to tour some of it but don't need to tour all of it

    On a side note,

I'm planning to tour the Appalachian Trail in my Trooper.

I hope to do that in late summer early fall...

Living here in St. Louis I drive on part of it all the time. Only lengthy part I drove on was across MO to lower Kansas.

Of course every time I want frozen custard I have to drive on 66....... http://teddrewes.com/

I've had my 81, 86 , 90 & LTD wagon on the western sections between Amboy & Needles CA. Have pictures of both but they're not handy.

Those sections are pretty rough. In 2015 several sections (bridges) were washed out due to very intense monsoon thunderstorms. Not sure if it has been repaired yet.
