This maybe a politically incorrect question but what did you have to pay to buy the Capri?

i ask because i also have an 83 turbo RS and I'm working on determining it value vs restoration costs. I've restored a number of cars but nothing from the 80s... Mostly chevelles and 60s mustangs.

That looks like a 1984 RS, not 1983, unless somebody went through a lot of trouble to make a 1983 model look like a 1984 model.

Vin number states, its an 1983. Aren't all 84's rs turbos charcoal? I paid 2600 for the capri. A bit more then i wanted but it is getting harder to fine one without the common foxbody rot issues up here in the northeast. I will post more pictures this weekend after i wash.

Yes, all 1984 Turbo RS were Dark Charcoal Metallic (paint code 9W).

My confusion is for two reasons:

    1. Sometimes people look at the scheduled build date on the door tag and assume that indicates model year but the model year starts about 4-5 months before the calendar year ends. For example, the 1984 Capri model year may have started in September 1983 but has an "E" (1984) model year code in the VIN.

    2. This car has a 1984-86 style RS air dam with foglamps. No Capri or Mustang in 1983 had an air dam or foglamps.

It also has 84 1/2 style seats with no netted headrests and the pull out knee bolsters, but the fabric on the seats seems to be out of a newer aero Mustang anyway. Definitely not 83 or 84 upholstery.

1984 Mustang GT owned since 1991 (first car). Mercury Mountaineer GT-40P engine, some suspension mods, currently undergoing a five lug SN95 brake upgrade and more suspension mods. Some minor body and interior mods have been done as well.

I know the seats arent original. I'll be picking those up this weekend. Also getting the original rearend, motor, and a few other pieces. I was told the original seats need to be redone.

My dad who bought my 1983 Capri Turbo RS (titled as an 83) used in 1988 said it originally had the front air damn with the marshal fog lights like the one above. My brother sadly gently rear-ended a semi in 1995 and so it ended up with a standard bumper cover on it but I had every intention of finding that bumper cover again. Is it possible the RS bumper cover was a late 83 thing too?

    Welcome to FEP forum jobrien.
As Fox chassis & the rest of us know, "never say that an American auto manufacturer did not do something or other in a certain year". Someone is sure to show up with proof that you are wrong.
By checking the buck tag (if one is present) and the VIN you should be able to know for certain the year etc.

By the way, congratulations on the Capri that is a truly rare jewel, especially since you are getting all of the original parts.
