Here's something you don't see every day. The WideFox made it to Hotrod Magazine's website.

It turns out that Muscle Mustangs and Fast Fords (since they are under the Motortrend Group with Hotrod) shared out the article also on the Hotrod.com website. Definitely a 2-for1 deal that I didn't expect. Many have asked how I was able to get my information in their hands, so this weekend's video is the backstory on it.

After the 3 hour road-trip in the rain, I had a few days of contemplation of what I wanted to do next. The widebody isn't that much fun to cruise around in. No A/C, no radio, and I found out the hard way that is isn't very little fun in the rain. It's great when you can push the car to handle, but there are so few opportunities to do that. I was tinkering with the idea of selling the car since I really didn't have a lot of time to take it to a track for a weekend. 2020 has turned out to be the year I never thought could happen (as with most of us).

I decided to put the widebody up for the rest of the year. Nowhere to really take it anymore in 2020 before I was planning to store it in October. Why pay for insurance when the car doesn't leave the property. There was a cars & coffee gathering last weekend, so I took the chance to get one last drive in.

Something I've been working on in my spare time has been the V2.0 widebody for the WideFox. I want to create a metal widebody and ditch the fiberglass pieces. I've been doing some sketches when I felt the inspiration, and then posting them on my garage board next to the car. Here's what I've come up with so far.

Nice drawings. Wish I could draw! It would make my life much easier. One comment I will make is that the 03 Cobra and the Cobra R front lower air dam will be a tough fit on the 79-82 Mustang front end. The angles of the 79-82 don't match up well with the curved front surface of the 03 Cobra. Not saying you can't make it work, but it will be a bit more of a challenge. The curves of the 03 Cobra actually match up well with the 83-86 Mustang front covers just FYI. Good Luck!

I figured they wouldn't match well when I laid them next to each other. What I'm about to do doesn't make a lot of sense and I don't expect anything to fit correctly. That's my challenge to make the square peg fit the round hole.

For the next version of the widebody, I wanted something a little more aggressive for the hood. Keeping the OEM steel hood, but adding some extra cooling capacity. Race Louvers didn't have anything specific for the 79-82 OEM steel hoods. After a couple emails with measurements, they made a set for my hood and sent them my way. I had a chance to get them finished up late last week. It's a long install process since you have to measure everything, then remove the hood, cut, and put it all back. I'm very happy with the louvers, and it should add something different. I have thought about going turbo in the future with a simple 306ci SBF, and the turbo would sit right below a vent to keep underhood temps lower.

For the Race Louvers install, I broke up the process into the center louvers and the side louvers in case someone only wanted to install either set. Some just install the center for the radiator, and others just do the sides for a turbo, etc.

If you watch my content, you know I'm always working on extra pieces. While I had the hood off I decided to repaint the hood hinges to match. These are the hinges off the wrecked '92 I had 4 years ago, so they were still Wild Strawberry. They are now the Aluminum color to match the engine bay, plus new rubber cups.

I haven't been able to work on my widebody much this year. After the Race Louvers were done, I haven't really done much beyond backing the car out for a couple random things. It's usually that I need the garage bay for something else. I made 3 other videos with the Race Louvers since the last one went public on the YouTube channel. I have a couple other things to film today or tomorrow when I get enough time. It's going to sit a while longer until I am finished with everything on the farm, get the '86 hatchback done and back together, then can start on the metal widebody.

I have kept the car active on the internet though. Global Finishing Solutions is holding a virtual show that ended yesterday. I had the widebody in that, and it's also in a 3M Films (for vinyl wrap) contest this week. No idea how well it will do, but I'm trying to keep it active. I just finished runner-up in a Haynes Manual contest too.

I have been looking for more brand partners for the next widebody version as I want it to be shown at SEMA 2021. The Foxbody is becoming a trendy car finally, and I'd like to have something different enough to get attention there. The metal widebody will be re-wrapped in new vinyl, and I'd thought about trying to get a new set of wheels for it. It's always made me cranky that the original owner of Rovos Wheels (before he sold to American Muscle) publicly would say he never wanted to see his wheels on a Foxbody. I have been trying to find a brand that actually wanted to be associated with the car. Konig Wheels and Schott Wheels both already turned me down.

Well, the widebody left on a transporter this morning. It's headed east to a new owner. I removed the tire letters this week as the new owner wanted the black sidewall back. I gave it a thorough check and wiped it down last night one last time.

I am a little sad that the car is gone, but the new owner is a viewer of my YouTube channel. He has seen a lot of the videos of the car and can't wait to make it a spot in his garage. I feel like it's going to a good home and will be driven a lot more than I could get around to.

I'm very proud of the accomplishments of the build. It has been shown a lot from Hot Rod and MM&FF Facebook pages, Custom Tire Letters, Design Engineering, Race Louvers, and Avery Dennison. It will live on and another enthusiast will keep it active. I had only driven it a total of 2,163 miles since it first hit the road in July 2018. The tires still have some of the whiskers on the edges.

I'll get back on the '86 hatchback restomod and drive it a bit before I decide what to do with it.

I feel your pain, when I built my 2 door super roo aussie falcon and sold it to a guy in Australia I felt like I lost a child. He just contacted me with an offer ( kinda low at that) so now its gone....but I used some of the money to finish my Capri that was in way worse condition and now she is a beautiful Capri ready for the streets
