Here's the first outside look at the tire lettering after the full set was done. I feel like the hood and lettering clashes like both are gaudy and fighting for attention. I am going to change the hood wrap this winter, so they don't have to clash for too much longer. I am going to replace the windshield in a couple weeks also, which means the windshield banner will be changed. I am going to make it green with a black background to color match to the tire letters.

One long term goal is to make the widebody out of metal instead of fiberglass. I don't have a TIG welder or English wheel, so I'll have to add those to the garage before then. It will be a great project if/when I get to that point.

I have a show this weekend that will be a 2 - 2.5 hour road trip each way. I may love or hate the car more this weekend.

Here is the video for the tire letter install. Figure around 7 hours for the complete set. It took me a little longer since I had to stop a lot for filming, etc.

This past Saturday was the big road trip north for a car show. It was around 2 hours each way, and I had said I'd either love or hate the car after I got back. I definitely don't hate it. The seats have no lumbar support, or not enough, so I need to find something better than I have now (SVE race seats). I have had a few suggest Corbeau GTS II or get some factory seats and re-cover them. Either way, the car cruises great at 70mph with enough power to pass. I finally figured out the stumbling issue. My timing was too far retarded, and the computer was pulling timing as the RPMs go up. I reset it to 14 degrees and the issue went away 95% of the time. I dropped it to 12 degrees last night to see if that will get rid of the other 5% of the time. Either way, the car runs better than ever and I put another 250 miles on it this weekend.

The show itself was for 1980 and older cars, so I had one of the newest cars there. The typical Camaros, Mustangs, etc. showed up. I had the only Fox, widebody, or vinyl wrapped car. The crowd was a little more trendy, and I had a few people immediately recognize the car was wrapped instead of painted. There were plenty that had to look at the dash card to know it was a Mustang, and I had a few tell me how they either wanted to get a Foxbody, wanted one more than before after seeing my car, or a story of they knew someone or they owned one previously.

A project I have been working on slowly the last few days is to add new headlights to the widebody. These are "drop-in" replacements for the typical halogen 4x6" bulbs, yet they require a lot of modification due to the larger heatsinks on the back. They are LED projectors for high / low and have a built in running light & demon eye. I have the demon eye on a switch under the dash, which fills a hole from a previous owner. The cut-off on the lights is very good and should make a huge difference if i ever drive the car at night. Otherwise, I'll just enjoy the difference it makes visually.

Here is the video for the headlight installation in case anyone has interest in a similar set for themselves that has the larger heatsinks on the back.

I am having the windshield replaced on Monday morning, so I am going to take the surrounding pieces off this weekend (outside trim, cowl grille, A-pillars, and dash pad). They have to mess with buytl, so I'd rather get everything I can out of their way that I can. When I get the car home, plan to change the hood and cowl wrap. I am going to match the rest of the car initially and then decide if I want to add additional graphics or stripes. I have a couple ideas in my head that I'll do in powerpoint or paint just to see if I like it, then maybe move to the car with it.

This week the hood graphic finally came to an end. I've had it on just over a year, and it was time to move on to another design. I removed the graphic from the cowl panel and hood, sanded a couple areas, cleaned it, then wrapped it to match the rest of the car. I plan to add some stripes or another design later on (probably over the winter). I have two or three more complete vehicle wraps to do before I can get back to the widebody for more work.

Here are two videos I put out in the last few days. One is looking over my vinyl wrap after 1 year in service, and the 2nd is replacing the hood wrap.

This weekend was a double-header for car shows. Friday night was a 2-hour show at a local real estate office off one of the main streets in town. The 2nd was a new show put on by a group that normally runs the cars and coffee. The 2nd was kinda new as the group was more imports and new domestic muscle than the usual older muscle cars (ala Friday night's show). It was good to get the car out both afternoons / evenings as I learned a few things about the car that I didn't know before. The dash bulbs are terrible. The stumbling surging nonsense is back at 2,200rpm. I have a license plate bulb out. And the headlights outrun my aftermarket alternator for power, especially at idle. A previous owner put a chrome 1-wire alternator on the '92 I had (that donated it's drivetrain to the '80) from Summit Racing. I assumed he would have upgraded to a 130amp, but I bet he put a simple 60amp in that was probably OEM spec. Not a big deal, but something to add to the fix / upgrade list later on.

I took a lot of pictures, but this was my favorite from the weekend.

This past Saturday was a local car show called Benefit for the Basin in Klamath Falls, OR. They had a good turnout of maybe 250 cars, plus had Kindig It Design there to sign autographs. It was a nice 65 degree day, plus they had some parking lot grudge races (0-100 feet) for fun and entertainment. I didn't win anything, but watching the people is always fun.

I think 2020 is going to be more driving and track days than anything, so I plan to start putting better suspension and brakes on the car, and adding a rollbar for a harness too. The shows are getting pretty monotonous where I live, so I'll probably just go to shows a few hours away or some bigger shows like Good Guys down in California. This is a picture from the show:

Here's the video from the car show last weekend. This is probably the last for 2019 as I'm going to focus on restoring the '86 hatchback and won't work on the WideFox until spring time.

I had to move the coupe outside this weekend to do a little work on my wife's Suburban, so I did a little filming and took a couple pictures. The 2020 plan is to build the coupe into a capable car that can compete in the middle of the Optima Street Car series. I ordered a rollbar from Maximum Motorsports this weekend, and will wait to see if their rear suspension pieces are added to the Weekend Deals in the future. I also want to build the widebody out of metal and replace the Maier Racing fiberglass pieces. That means buying an English wheel and TIG welder next year.

I sat down this week and put together an events schedule for 2020. I am going to skip most of the car shows I did this year and focus more on taking the widebody to the track. I have a closed-circuit track for autocross just under 2 hours away that runs SCCA one weekend per month. I've looked over the rules for the CAM-T class, and the car should fit all the rules unless I add the Cobra-R front lower fascia. I think it's big enough that it will stick forward beyond the vertical line of the bumper trim line. It would fit Good Guys and Optima Street Car either way as their rules are a little more open.

I currently have a 4-point rollbar ordered through MM and a set of rear lower control arms too. I am waiting to see if they offer the panhard bar on their weekend deals to buy it, and I'm not sure if I should go for the torque arm or just replace the uppers and bushings. I worry about hitting the torque arm on rocks on my road as it sticks below the differential.

The goal is to build it to compete in more track events and less car shows as my ultimate street car.

I was sick with either a cold or flu last weekend, but I still buckled into the WideFox and went down to the Cars & Coffee locally. One more event for the year, and it'll be put away for 2019. I'm still getting parts together for a 2020 SCCA CAM-T schedule. The goal is seat time.

I've had some requests over time to just cut out the chit-chat of the widebody kit and show the labor involved. After a couple hours of editing, and running at 5x speed, I've chopped it down to just 13 minutes.

Santa said he was a little overloaded on deliveries this year, so he dropped these off a little early. They should give the WideFox a little more stopping power in 2020. The rollbar from Maximum Motorsports should be here in the next couple of days too. The garage is starting to fill up with parts finally, for both the widebody and the '86 hatchback.

This will be the last of the mashups I do for a while and it is the largest I've done. Someone suggested / asked for a complete breakdown on building the WideFox to date. It covered more than 80 videos over the last 3.5 years, and this is around 1,000 manhours of labor to get to this point. Literally from day #1 off the trailer at the garage in April 2016 until mid-September 2019 this year.

A couple weeks ago I stopped working on the '86 hatchback and started getting the widebody ready for the 2020 season. I had a couple guests stop by the garage, and cleaned up everything the night before. After that I broke out the Brembo boxes and installed the Ford Performance big brake kit in a couple hours. Nothing surprising thankfully beyond the dual bleeders, which was a first for me. Everything fit well and the wheels barely clear the calipers. Barely by 2-3mm. I'll have to keep an eye on this as I drive it more. I may need a 3mm spacer to keep the clearance.

I an effort to get rid of the issue with stuttering exhaust, I decided to replace the distributor. It is the last piece of the components that haven't been verified or previously replaced. I replaced the distributor with a reman from Rock Auto (done by Cardone) and immediately stopped working after 2 minutes. The engine got up to about 160 degrees, and the distributor quit. I let it cool off a bit, it started right up and then shutoff again at the same temperature. At that point I decided that I would take the time to create a TFI relocation kit since I had the time. I planned how to do it, bought materials while I was in town, and set out to build something custom for my set-up. In the end, I had a lot of problems with it. The new distributor eventually stopped working, period. I think the ground for the TFI location was suspect. Great planning, but poor execution. In the end I ordered a new distributor, got my money back from the previous one I ordered, and put everything back to the way it was from FORD. With a little double checking for TDC and a timing light, it's purring at 13 degrees BTDC with the new distributor. This is the saga:

Every year I try to do something odd on April Fool's Day. I made a video last weekend for a 'For Sale' ad for the widebody, which I released yesterday. Wow, did people get a little upset. I seriously had thought about selling it and replacing it with a DeTomaso Pantera. Probably not, but daydreaming is still fun.

After my failed attempt at a TFI relocation kit, someone tagged Ray at Fatfoxx on my Instagram post and we talked a bit about where my kit went wrong. Ray had never officially done an install video for his kit (it's been out for 6 years), so he sent me a kit in exchange for making an install video he can use for marketing and advertising. This video is installing the kit following his instructions that come in the kit. My car is so modified that I had to make some changes for it to work, but those will be out next week in another video.

One of the hardest parts of having a modified, especially one as complicated as the WideFox, is trying to make parts for a stock car fit correctly. I've already done a wire tuck, slimmed down harnesses, and routed everything differently than a stock wiring harness. The Fatfoxx TFI module relocation kit is designed for a stock Foxbody. In order to make it work on my car, I had a few extra things to do. The video from today shows the "behind the scenes" that the install video done specifically for Fatfoxx didn't show.

I've always had this running list of little things that I wanted to eventually fix when I had a little extra time and money. With the stimulus check and about every activity postponed or cancelled, it seems I currently have both. I spent a morning making a list of the things on the top of my fix-it list, and ordered some parts to cross a few things off my list. Here's what I'm working on now:

Last week I was able to spend some time in the garage installing some of the parts I bought. Black kick panels (replacing the leftover gray parts), new inside pull handle cups, black window cranks, a sunroof latch, and a new cowl grille. I still have some parts to install that are a little more involved, but I'll probably get to them this week.

The second half of the video talks about being furloughed last week. This morning was the first morning in 20 years where I didn't have employment or a reason to go to work (outside of a taken vacation day). Thankfully I have so many other things to work on that I won't be bored. Just a weird feeling waking up this morning.

I had an event last night, so I drove the WideFox into town. I mounted up all my action cameras (a total of 4) to the car to shoot some video. I haven't watched it yet, but these were my creative ideas for getting ground-level footage.

Last Friday night I jumped in the widebody and drove to town for a birthday cruise. I hadn't really driven the car with the new Brembo front brakes, the Maximum Motorsports panhard bar, or the simple exterior / interior backed out pieces. I drove into town, stopped at a car wash to spray off the car, then went to meeting spot. I spent a few minutes wiping down the car. Then I sat there for a good 10 minutes and no one showed up. I never thought to check Facebook, but the cruise was moved to last night (a week later). Oh well. I was able to try out my action cameras and see what footage they could get. I'll try again to get some footage when I go out next time.
