Been out workin on the Pacer!

Pressure wash the engine/transmission/chassis, fresh oil change with a FL1A filter, new wiper blades, flush power steering, fresh brake fluid, fresh differential fluid and transmission fluid. Fixed a few little things like the rear view mirror, dome light and headlight. Cleaning the windows made a HUGE difference in appearance. The engine runs whisper quiet after the oil/filter change.

Went out for a drive and damn if I didn't make it back home. Runs & drives fantastic for an ole truck!!!

    Mo pics to come!

Looks great! I'd be tempted to clear coat it as is to preserve the "patina" for years to come.

I would love to have one of those trucks. Funny how we always say I will just get it running right and clean it up and thats it. Just drive it and nothing else. But we never do leave it alone. Just part of owning a old=cool vehicle. That thing is way cool.

Looks great. Question - what's the difference between an F100 and F150?

Gross vehicle weight rating and cargo carrying capacity.

    F100 is less than a F150.

According to Wikipedia here is the F- series breakdown for Gen 6

    F100 F101 F102 F103 F104 F105 F106 F107 F108 F109 F10N: 1/2 ton (4,550–5,700 GVWR max)

    F110 F111 F112 F113 : 1/2 ton (4×4)(5,250–6,500 GVWR max)

    F150 F151 : "heavy" 1/2 ton (6,050–6,200 GVWR max(6,050–6,500 GVWR max)

    F250 F251 F252 F253 F254 F255 F256 F257 F258 F259: 3/4 ton (6,200–8,100 GVWR max)

    F260 F261 F262 F263 F264 F265 F266: 3/4 ton (4×4) (6,500–8,400 GVWR max)

    F350 F350 F351 F352 F353 F354 F355 F356 F357 F358 F359 F35P: 1 ton (6,000–10,000 GVWR max)

    F-360: 1 ton (4×4) (8,550 GVWR max)

The GVWR ratings for these trucks was tied to a combination of wheel, spring, axle and brake combinations. The series code on the ID tag denotes which model and from that it can be determined what weight rating each vehicle has. 4×4 trucks can also be identified by the Vehicle Identification Number and on the ID plate as a serial number. For example, F10 is an F-100 2-wheel drive, but F11 is an F-100 4×4, and so on. Serial numbers beginning with an "X" are SuperCab models.

I know they made both but are those hubcaps or the actual aluminum wheel. This is such a cool truck. You can tell already it is cleaning up great.

A truck that clean and straight deserves a proper repaint.

From what I've always understood, back in the day there were three separate ratings. The half, three quarter and one-ton light duty trucks were based on payload capacities (give or take). You have to subtract yourself and your passengers from the rated payload to get an accurate number.

When the trucks came out in the early 70s, things started changing. The F100 was a true half ton (or as close as you could come) and the F150 had a three-quarter ton capacity.

The 1/2, 3/4 and 1-ton tags that we give the trucks really haven't fit for a long time, but we still use them. Springs, axles and payload all also come into play.

Feel free to correct my thinking.

I'll bet that y'all thought that my answer to "What is the difference between an F100 and an F150?" was going to be, "50 Fs" -- didn't ya?

Part of the Chicken tax rules, and support of small SUV truck makers like AMC forced the feds to have some fully passenger car emissions regulations kick ins. For the F150, the GVW allowed it to skip the passenger car emissions regs. Taking the GVW up helped eliminate extra compliance cost to Ford.

And that is why the F100 fell off the options list sometime in 1984 (1985 in Australia). The F150 change came about in 1975. The F100 started taking less share in the market from 1977 onwards to 1983. 1984 was the last US year the F-100 designation was used by Ford.

Were there 1/4 ton pickups back in the old days? I think a half ton truck was a step up from entry level, but I could be wrong.

Is that a cruise control switchgear under the fuel gauge? And did you edit out the last two digits of your VIN on the door sticker, or is the CUN really just four digits?
