Default Bought an SVO speedometer...sort of

So I was doing my usually "84 Mustang" perusal on Ebay, and I saw "SVO speedometer 84 85 86" $19.99-which got me very excited. Saw the pic, looked good, next thing you know I'm buying it now and paying paypal. BUT what I ended up and finally noticed after by heart stopped racing, is the FACE of an SVO gauge..no mechanicals. I know, rookie move on my part. The questions is, what can I do with this? Is it of any use in my 84 GT? I'm guessing no without the mechanicals.

My understanding is that you could get an aftermarket face decal that puts numbers on the markings that are blank. The face should fit on your existing mechanicals and work fine.

I did a dyno test on my 84 and it wrapped right past the 85 marker and had no problems. The Feds mandated that all speedo's could only read 85mph. This was to make us drive slower..

Yeah right, we just didn't know how fast we were driving.. No gps or cell phone apps yet.

someone else chime in if this is not correct.

It is pretty much useless without the mechanicals.

I guess my question would be...why would someone just remove the face. Only thing I can figure is the speedo was broken??

    Second what Kendal said.

Oh well. I guess I'm stuck with it then. Is there any way to mess with a stock 85 mph speedo to get it to work? I think I have an extra one somewhere.

Look at that seller's sold item list, directly under your "speedometer."

Buy one of these little clock kits and make a clock out of it.

Not serious. Don't hate on me.

I think that's a good idea. What else are you gonna do with it? You might find a tach face later and you could turn it into a matching barometer...

A speedometer shop should be able to re-calibrate your existing speedometer head to work with that face.
But no, it's not just a swap-and-go upgrade.
