Thread: PTV Clearance

    Default PTV Clearance

I'm rebuilding my 5.0 in my 1992 LX. I'm looking to due gt 40p heads with 1.7 roller rockers and a trick flow stage 1 cam. Has anyone run this setup and do you like it? If so are there any piston to valve clearance? I can't seem to get a straight answer reading through the other forums. Thanks.

You should always check piston to valve clearance when modifying a motor. It is not that difficult and gives one some piece of mind. However, why are you wanting to install the 1.7 rocker arms?

There is only one straight answer, and thats from JA Cook, eeprete and PaceFever79. Its duration, not peak lift, that governs piston to valve clearance. What duration, is the question one would ask to justify ones self. The answer to what duration is also based on if the cam is heads up, advanced, or, G"d forbid, retarded. The be all and end all is a trail fit with the cam, and some modeliing clay. Unless you have Solid Works, and a 3D modelig package, you won't be able to do it any other way. The varaible are too great. The Australian 5.0 versions of the GT40P headed US Explorer/Mountainer engine ran a variety of cams, but none match yours.

Its basically like setting the bump on a Hemi 426...unless you've got a 3d program, its plastercine.
