    Default How many are left

I am wondering about the age old question of how many are still around? I attend a lot of car shows in the North Carolina South Carolina area and I have yet to see another pace car. Realizing there were a lot made you would think I would at least see one or two at the shows I attended. Just wondering

Nice car. Do you have any pics posted?

I'm not sure if you had your car at the 50th anniversary show in Charlotte a couple of years ago or not but if you didn't, there is at least one other one out there. It was a nice one. I might have a picture of it if you're interested.

There are a lot of them around the area, just not all drivers. Fearnot has two.
1984 Mustang GT owned since 1991 (first car). Mercury Mountaineer GT-40P engine, some suspension mods, currently undergoing a five lug SN95 brake upgrade and more suspension mods. Some minor body and interior mods have been done as well.

I have owned my car about 7 months now and it was in good condition when I got it but I have done a lot to it since. Been spending money on it since the day I bought it. Like I said I was just wondering how many are still around. I hope I see several in the future.

    That's awesome! It's a good looking car.

If you haven't seen Daniel Carpenter's fox museum in Concord, you really should. He has an amazing collection. He had a pace car there 2 years ago (I am guessing that he still does) with 11 original miles on it that was never dealer prepped.

I'm guessing mine will be the only one at the All Ford Show on the first Sunday of June here in Minnesota (I have not seen a Pace Car at this show in over 10 years).

    Default How many are left

In the 12 years I've had mine I've yet to see another one in the wild. The only time I have seen them is at Carlisle which doesn't count because it draws from a large group. Same goes for MCA events. Even at those specialty events, You might see a few, but never a lot. So how many are left? My guess is half or about 6000. But a large number of those are in various states of disrepair. Many are rusted wrecks. How many are left in fair condition or better? Maybe half of all the surviving cars or about 3000 examples. That might even be generous.

Mick, how many do you have listed in your database?

Nope, mine will be there as well however mine doesn't look like a Pace Car anymore. Was there last year and the year before as well. I hide in plain sight. LOL Nice PC by the way. Don't see many with the rear wiper either.

Nice! I look forward to meeting you. I suspect you'll be in a different class though (modified?).

Yes but we should probably still be close to each other as far as area goes. I'll stop over and check it out since I don;t ever see PC's at shows either. I saw one that was in decent shape at the Tenvoorde Ford Mustang Cruise about 5 years ago but it hasn't been back since. Here is my build thread for the PC http://vb.foureyedpride.com/showthre...e-in-driveline

Are you going to the Buick Club sponsored show/swap @ the State Fair Grounds next Sunday (5/1)? I'll be there with the PC (it's first show).

It would depend on the weather. I haven't had any cars in that show, but I have been to the swap. Not much at the swap meets for our year mustangs though.

Meet a guy who has one but he said it was just a shell that he bought 10 years ago. Went to see it and yea just a shell but it was a turbo car with ac and a auto. It hurts to see one that was once a beautiful car and now just a parts car at best. Bummer. When I got home I gave mine a big hug and then broke out the parts catalogs and spent more money on her. Notice I said her.

May 20-22 at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway there will be a "Pace Car Reunion" which will include all the past
Pace cars of Indy, all makes and models, should be cool to see! I plan on going with my 79 Pace Car and and the other
one I use to own will be there as well, should be quite a few 79's there! The Speedway is getting the one they have
out of storage for the event.

Near the Ford tent close to the fence? That would've been mine. I didn't see any others inside the track, but someone told me there were 3 outside the track.

With 10,479 made, surely there are a few thousand left.
