I bought a Ford factory sport steering for a Fairmont 15 years ago. Turns out it was not as nice as it looked on Ebay when it arrived home. The spokes had been spray bombed silver to cover the rust and original black color. The rubber grip was rough....worn and nicked.
As disappointed as I was I held on to it, thinking I could fix it or resell it....I only paid $20 for it.
Over the years I decided to try someday replace the grip with wood and restore the spokes.
Well that time finally came.
Here is what I started out with.
