    Default 1979 door armrest interchangeable?

Greetings. Is the 79 door armrest interchangeable with other four eyed mustangs? I only see replacements for 81-86.
    Thanks for your insight.

The 79-80 hard plastic door panels are unique to those year models. Unfortunately the arm rest for those panels are specific and unique to those years also. They are not reproduced at this time and not sure if they will be. Good Luck!

Thanks...not what I wanted to hear. Guess its time to get creative with the originals. Clean add foam apply SEM.

Here's a set on Ebay, but they are probably not much better than what you currently have.

The spongy armrest foam causes the vinyl to crack from repeated elbow crushing.
Thin firmer foam on top of a thin wood backer under the vinyl works ok.
Lots of foam padding types to choose from.
Wonder if memory foam would slow the vinyl flexing that causes it to tear?
Repairing or covering split vinyl, like dash cracks, have no quick fix other than cover ups.

I have thought about either having a set machined out of aluminum for my Pace Car or fabricate some myself either in Fiberglass or metal and then recover with foam and wrap in leather. Once I get the new engine swapped into the Pace Car that will become more of a priority.

Thanks. I saw those and for the price and the condition, I figured I'd work with mine. They are not in horrible shape but do need work. I'll take some before and after pictures of the progress.

Generally YES if the door panel is the hard plastic version. Ford used a couple different door panel options on the early Foxbodies, so there are some variations. 1981 was the first year for the vinyl covered door panel with the arm rest that carried through until 1986.
