Thread: TMI Door Panels

    Default TMI Door Panels

Installed TMI reproduction door panels on the 86 GT today. Not an exact reproduction, but better than the water logged originals. Diamond perforation is not exact and carpet / map pocket is a different color than the original. Easy to install but the top front push pin is in the wrong location.Name: image.jpg

Like everything else TMI that some like to nit-pick about....I think they look great! If you are going for 100% concours then I guess you'll have to search high & low and pay a premium for NOS. But for a typical restoration to improve the looks of the car, these (and their seat material) work nicely IMO.

Those look great! They look so fresh and new. I've been wanting to order a pair, but they're definitely not cheap. I'm worried about the carpet matching and all that. Maybe, I'll ask them for samples of their materials and see what they say.

I tend to approach these things with the following attitude:

For my car, which will never, ever be stock again and is not in any way a candidate for a proper restoration, these would be fantastic. They look a heck of a lot better than the worn, stained, discolored and warped things that are in my car currently. Also, for those of us who have this sort of more realistic outlook for our own vehicles where 'good enough' really is good enough, and are willing to buy these products, it should be known that we're showing our support for reproduction parts and the more of the 'good enough' ones that sell, the more likely the 'way better/pretty well perfect' ones will surface. This is what got the Classic aftermarket going: cars being built with care, and the fact that for most of the builds out there, good parts are good enough.

That said, I don't expect the super-sticklers and serious restoration crowd to go for this, nor should they be expected to, and that's okay.

I'm sure the workmanship will be fine the materials will just be slightly different from oem as was said. As I recall your doors had already been done once correct? So you prob won't notice. Interested in seeing how they look when you get em

I don't know how bad the shape of anyones are but as long as the material from the carpet up is good you can rebuild the door panels. My carboard was twisted and waterlogged like crazy. I ordered new cardboard backing, new lower carpets, dew wipe and restored mine to factory original. Cost way less than TMI and looks original.
