Whew. I just turned 40, but I didn't change brackets... yet.
Who the hell had the money for a new car when they were 18? I sure didn't.

I was indestructible in my 20's and even into my late 30's and then I hit Forty and my knees, joints, and body revolted against all the years of abuse. My best friend's Dad had told me for years to wear knee pads when crawling around on my knees on concrete, etc. I never listened. Well he got the last laugh and reminds of it every time I see him!

Well as much as I want to admit it, my mind is telling my body what it wants done. The problem is my 62 yr old body refuses to listen to my 40yr old mind...lol. On the positive side of this game, I still have my first car (71 Comet), my first truck (77 F250 4x4) and my first wife (married 40 yrs)! Have had the 84 Cougar 4 eye since 87....life is good!
Lol, I love this thread. The way some of you talk, it's sounds like it's about time to be put out to pasture. Lmao.
Let me try again.
I reckon it's pertinear time to put some of you out to pasture.

I was lucky...my first New car at 16 was an 82 GT. I got to order it and had to wait...It was the 1st GT they ordered. I Hung out at the dealer every after school everyday tell she came in. It was loaded on th top rear of the trans port. Once on the ground I got to take it for its PDI and was the first to drive it off the lot with the tech....

When I read your comments I am a little bit afraid of growing older Especially because I already had my firt slipped disk with 18 years and the doc says my joints are aready looking like the joints of a 60 year old. But apparently you all can still do what you love and that is all that matters right?!
My first Fox was a 1979 i got in 1989 I was 19 but my 86 that I have now is my favorite and nicest. Almost 30 years of foxes it has gone by fast. I was working under the dash for a couple of hours today and I really feel my age, back is sore.

I'm 45 now. Got my first fox fix in 88 when I was 17-the 79 pace car. I'd say most people into 4 eyes are probably mid 40s to mid 50s.
I concur on the aches and pains. Spent an hour under the kitchen sink today putting in a new faucet and my shoulders are killing me.

As I matured I realized my desires for automobiles has changed. I enjoy driving and cruising more and the working on them all night less. How did I solve that you ask? I had the realization that taxes and insurance on older paid off cars is minimal ($150 yr for Mustang, $175 yr for the Model A). I drive them and if I break them I put them back in the barn till I decide to work/fix them. The hard part was not getting rid of them. I've owned cars that it would make you cringe wondering why I got rid of the (I cringe too).
Just enjoy what you have, drive them as much as you want / need and don't worry. The EPA will regulate them off the road as "un-drivable" before you know it.

I get a kick out of the comments about doing work on these cars in you 20's, 30's, 40's, etc....

Will be 39 in a few months. Got my first fox, an 84 gt when i was 19. The 85 gt i have now is the 20th mustang i have owned. Friends and family refer to me as the mustang guy, lol. Love driving it and working on it but like other comments, i feel the pain more and more afterwards. Just pulled the trans yesterday and after a few hours on laying on my back and crawling in and out from under it, i feel like i have went a few rounds in an mma fight. Now i know why my dad who is 66 calls me all the time when there is work to be done on somethimg

I was 20 when my oldest brother got his 86 GT t-top. I definitely could not afford that car then but I did get to drive it on occasion as well as my other brother's 87 Shelby 2.2 Turbo. After graduating and getting a job and getting married and having kids and finally having some spare $$$ I couldn't wait to get back behind the wheel of a fox body Mustang a little over 20 years later.

I am literally blown away at the age of alot of this group, not in a bad way its just I never realized the age group. And whats crazy is the amount of votes as well... keep it up with all the great stories! !
When I finally got a job I actually test drove a 93 lx hatch but opted for a 93 Explorer Sport instead.
