We assembled those things down here in Wrong Hand Drive form.

Not a lot, but they influenced the Short wheelbase Chrysler Valiant Charger and the Holden Torana Hatches we got down here.

    http://www.australianjavelins.com/

Imported in CKD (Completely Knocked Down) kit form and assembled locally by Australian Motor Industries, they were imported in very limited numbers and are one of Australia's rarest muscle cars. They were sold in Australia under the Rambler brand and were the only American muscle cars of that era to be sold new in Australia.

New Zealand got a lot of 70, 71 and 72 AMC Matradore sedans and some coupe in 343 cubic inch 255 hp form, great car and a few of those around in my little town. The green 343 ole Matratdoro one below

The Concorde, re-intro, all new Hornet and last of the Eagles used so much of that internal structure. Best thing was the protype 1956 Kaiser-Frazer 288 derived 250/287/327 V8. In 1966, it got a way points redesign. Now thin-walled to take all the iron out, yet kept the tall deck height, and Big Block bore spacing and 6" rods in a small block market place. In a new 290/304/343/360/390 to 401 cubic inch size. This is why the engine had so much latent potential. Same as the AMC 232/258 and 4.0, even the cut down six, the 2.5 I4. ...big bore spacings make breathing and good CFM flow rates easier, and piston area helps power.

The new late 60's cars had safety features which were poorly executed in the new platform model preview, but made the through flow ventilated cars basic braking and coil over a arm suspension was a brilliant long term chassis. It and the Jeep saved AMC.

Saw this beater of a Ford Probe today. Ironic that a new Mustang was behind it. Remember when it was the chosen successor to our pony car?

I guess car collections is cheating, but.....

My son is a Ventilation Technician. That means he gets to scrape out Resturant HVAC systems. Yeah boy!

The fruits of it is that nice ladies and Cafe owners ask him to come over and see the neigbouring sites, like the Steam Punk crazy locals penchant for Speed, Steel, Iron, Brass, and Rallye cars.

So Tuesday morning, while in the StreamPunk building next door to the car museum in the Oamaru Victorian Precinct,

Ash my son got to glide into the Oamaru Auto Collection, and salivate over

the Mark III GT40 Replica was in front of the Escort

    the E49 Chrysler Valiant Charger

The Freestyle became the Taurus X for 2008, I think, and had a short run only until 2009 or 2010. And the current Explorer is pretty much the new version of this body.

I'm at a loss to explain why they flopped. I thought they were attractive, and usable. Probably too early for the concept of today's full size CUV. Another victim of bad timing, just like platform-mate Five Hundred, whose thunder was totally stolen by the Chrysler 300. Also it didn't help that Ford was SUPER lame and flat-out WRONG to give up on RWD when they did. But I do go on...
