Default Anyone mess around with Arduino stuff?

I'm thinking about getting a starter kit, a knockoff one from Amazon. I thought it might be fun to learn something new and try to complete a project after I get the hang of it.

Any comments or experiences to share?

I got a starter kit a few years back. but didn't work with it yet.
Too busy at work then remodeling the other half of a duplex to even touch my 86.
But this maybe the kick in the but I need to get going.

I have a little, haven't had much time to spend on it either. Successfully built a couple projects for one of my other hobbies, but they used pre-written programs shared by others. I've bought a few books on writing the programs and read through some, but still completely clueless so far.

I dove in and bought a "kit". Maybe I can learn enough to make my project happen.

What I want to do is for my truck. As I'd prefer to keep the stock radio, I'm going to try to put together a hands free deal that uses the audio path from the external cassette deck. The truck is a '02 Silverado and there aren't any good adapters out there anymore that don't require a working cassette deck playing a blank tape to open up the audio channels to the headunit. I found some code and a schematic that should make that happen on Github so it seems doable.

I had bought a modified radio on Ebay but it worked like crap. The audio levels from the $15 adapter the seller installed were allover the place and it generally sounded like hot garbage. I don't think it worked with any higher quality codecs and the audio levels between streaming the music and talking on the phone were so far off that I was concerned I'd blow speakers when a call ended because the call output was so low.

    We'll see how it goes.
