Good all around tire, but not a great tire.

It is the best choice we've got.

my friend had traction t/a's on his 86 and he was very happy with them. i rode in the car a few times and they seemed to grip better than i expected for what they were

I have BFG Radial T/A's on my 84. It really was the only period correct looking tire for my 14" aluminum wheels. I love them!

Watching this, as I'm in the same boat now, with my '85 hatch needing some new rubber. Sucks that we have
so few good choices left without swapping to bigger hoops. Radial T/A-class tires are a non-starter on my car.
Even The Wife's Marauder rolls on NT-555s.

Other than the spendy Pirelli P600s, it appears that people who like to attack the curves have run out of good
    15" options.
    Cheers,

Default Cooper CS5 Ultra Touring 225/60/H15

Still not V rated, but a fairly sporty looking tire?

I'm running Falken Ziex on my 83L. 225 60 15. Overall, not a bad tire. They stick well dry but can get loose wet. Or maybe it's just me.

Drove home from work in an inch of snow, not a lot but the T-Paws did nicely.

This was the only decent tire I could find for my 85. They perform well but look too tame.

Have regular series BFG Radial T/A's on my Ranger
Wanted 245/60/15 and easy common availability.
Including later on, if i need more due to damage, etc
No other company makes a tire that size far as i know.
Great all around tire and have the right look.
Do not like cleaning white lettering, nor do they look right on this truck, so they are inside.
Drawback is cost. More than TRX were back in the 80's.
Is not of the same premium construction either.
Truck came with Firestone and would have bought them instead if the size was offered.

Tried several brands on the Mustang after TRX faded out.
Cooper Cobra (decent), Goodyear Eagle (never again). Turbine rims.
Now has Firestone 215/60/15 Precision Touring. 2nd set of Firestones.
Great traction, tread pattern look, and price is right.
BFG T/A was 2nd choice, but not paying more for barely the same or more likely less quality.

Those Cooper CS5 tires I linked above are under $100 and have lots of great feedback from sport luxury car owners. Also rated great in the rain.

Ply material type, how many and where, rubber compound.
Ads do help as to intended application of the tire.
Regular T/A have a lower max pressure than others.
    For whatever that's worth.

I'm running 225/60/15 Falken Ziex 512's on my 85 GT. They handle very well for being a budget tire. The car can sit for weeks and they don't flat spot as bad as I've felt with other tires. They're not V speed rated, but who needs to go 150 MPH in a flexy 'vert? lol H rated is all I ever need for this car.

In this pic, you can see the tread pattern. i had to take the wheel off to plug the tire after running over some kind of thick wire in the road that punctured the tread.

I ran them for years, although I ran one size larger on the rear, 225-60-15 on the front
    235-60-15 on the rear

I ran 235/60' up front on some 10 holes with 275/60's on the rear with my 87 bird. No rubbing unless maxed out on an angled dip. On my 86 they rub bad in the rears. They were futra super sport from pep boys. They were a good tire and later forever. Probably 60+k miles and had a nice white wall lettering saying super sport which they installed facing in of course.

My next set will be 275/50's or more 235/60's if I can't find the bigger size. 235/60's fit well and speedo was accurate.
