This car was just featured on the website Barn Finds .com. The writer stated that it was a very good buy that wouldn't last long.
Just out of 26 year storage! 1971 Ford LTD Convertible. Parked in a barn in 1991, I bought it last fall and began waking her up. She now runs and drives up and down my driveway. (Have never had it out on the road yet). Has a 400 c.i. V-8 with an automatic. Many components are still asleep, so I wouldn't recommend driving her any distance until every system gets dialed in. As example: I haven't cleaned out the gas tank, so she is running off of a jug that is secured in the engine bay.... I didn't bleed the brakes, just filled the master cylinder, so brakes are still spongy. (Comes with a new master cylinder) etc.
Top goes up and down, but the fabric is completely gone off of the frame so it will need a new top. (Glass back window is still there and in great shape). Cracking bondo is visible in both rear quarter panels, so at some time there must have been some dents in these areas. There is no rust through visible anywhere, (but there is a spot behind the right rear wheel that is visible from under the car.)Rear bumper chrome is flaking and rusty. All but two pieces of chrome trim are still on the car. Door panels and glass are good, seats are usable (back looks really good actually), but both are brittle and will need recovering). The floors, rocker panels, trunk floor etc are all solid with this exception: In the right rear corner of the car there is a rust hole (not visible without crawling under car) that is about 1/2" wide and 2-3" long. A couple inches away there is another hole in the trunk floor directly in front of the right rear taillight. Both of these seem to be from the exhaust pipe dumping out right there. The rest of the car seem to be very solid. I'm trying hard to give an accurate description of the car so you won't be disappointed. Only 2 Cragar mags are on the car. I have 2 more, but they are just a tiny bit too wide to go on the back with out new shock absorbers or a slight (2") lift in the rear. Will even tell you that the pictures are very flattering and that the car may not look as good as the pics!!
Cool Car. Will be a blast this summer. Buy it to restore or just fix a few things and drive it as is! Either way it is an appreciating investment that will bring you a lot of smiles for just a few bucks.
I'm selling her only because I just don't have storage space for all of my cars. One of them has to go, and this is the newest one, so she has been selected to put on the block.
I won't negotiate over the phone though, so you'll have to come to Newberg to see the car before I'll talk final price.
Price is $1,850. Clear title in hand. Delivery may be negotiable depending on where you live.
