Right now, given the current market, I'd say closer to $8,000-$8,500

He has not had a lot of interest

In it's current condition...more like $5,000 would be fair.

I will have to agree with Mike based upon it's current condition. I have a soft spot for the Comp Prep cars and particularly one's with race history. I wonder how it did (number of races, finishes, etc.)?

Anyone know the history on this car?

I have seen this car at a car show a few years ago. It's not any nicer in person. I didn't know Hagerty appraised cars. On the plus side, we have heard about the SVOs from Watkins Glenn etc, this is the similar raced on the west coast.

I am used to seeing pics of these cars raced in the Showroom Stock class, looking at the pic, this one was in the GT class (same class as the Mac Tools car and Kendal's Varsity Ford car. I wonder if it made it to the Nationals?

I have talked to the owner a good bit. It never went to the nationals.

Doesn't "comp prep" on the window sticker just mean it doesn't have a sunroof? Obviously other things have been done to this one for actual "comp", but nonetheless. This one just looks like an SVO in really crappy condition with a roll cage I wouldn't want to have to live with day to day. I'd offer 10%, $1500.

x2. i wouldn't even glance at a car like where the cage is that far off the pillars. just screams to me that they found the cheapest, laziest cage installer they could find. ford did that?????

comparison of how it should be(for half what they're asking) IMO:
    i have a 1992 GT, 4.10, 5spd.

Back in the early 80's this style cage was very common, appears to be the same one that I have in my '86 9L that ran in SSGT class. I noticed the Mac Tools car has a different configuration for the rear bars though.

HAGERTY has an collector car value guide on their website. It is updated often with what they believe to be current information based upon auctions results and known sales.

As with anything else it is a "guide" nothing more.

With race cars it's ALL about the DRIVER, their success (WINS) with that specific car, the supporting documentation to include log books, publicity the car generated and published race success . To a lesser degree where the car raced can have significance.

With NO MENTION whatsoever of this "Original Owner's" race success with this car one can only conclude that yes it raced and must NOT have been very successful. Had the owner/driver been successful and famous one would expect ALL THAT HYPE to be included in the for sale ad.

Neat car however the car's present CONDITION AND LACK OF ANY SUCCESSFUL RACE HISTORY as presented by the seller in his CL ad no where near supports his asking price or vehicle value in my humble opinion!

Congrats on purchase! Glad car's being placed in hands of a professional. Sometimes you have to look at the long game on a car like this. Pay a little more know and let the market catch up down the road. I would love to see your collection some day...

    Default svo race car

Well I am mostly finished with the California SVO scca race car. Here is how it turned out. I had to repair and put back the bars that had been taken out. He took them out so he could drive it on the street and have room for passengers. He told me how the bars went . New paint, leather seats, headliner and a lot of TLC. On to my next project.
